Job description
We're hiring a Greenhouse Supervisor to lead the daily operations of our greenhouse facility. In this hands-on leadership role, you will plan, organize, direct, and control greenhouse operations, supervise staff, and maintain property and equipment. You will train workers on job duties, safety procedures, company policies, and plant care, including identifying and handling diseases, pests, and weed problems. This role also involves coordinating work activities, overseeing labourers and helpers, managing schedules, maintaining records, requisitioning materials, troubleshooting equipment, and monitoring progress and costs.
We are looking for someone reliable, proactive, and detail-oriented who can ensure our greenhouse and grounds operate safely, efficiently, and to the highest standards.

Position Summary
As a Greenhouse Supervisor, you will oversee the daily operations of our greenhouse, ensuring plant health, productivity, and property upkeep. This hands-on role involves supervising staff, training workers on job duties, safety procedures, and plant care, coordinating work schedules, monitoring progress, and maintaining records.
You will work closely with multiple departments under a matrix-style reporting structure. Representing Boekestyn Greenhouses, you are expected to uphold our core values through leadership, professionalism, and collaboration.
This role involves overseeing greenhouse operations, supervising and training staff, managing planting, harvesting, and coordinating schedules, maintaining records, and performing hands-on tasks with tools and grounds maintenance.
Core Expectations
- Operational Oversight: Plan and organize the daily operations of greenhouse production and property maintenance.
- Staff Supervision: Supervise and coordinate the work of greenhouse technicians, labourers, and maintenance staff to meet production goals.
- Training: Train workers in job duties, safety procedures, company policies, and plant care techniques.
- Crop Management: Supervise planting, transplanting, pruning, harvesting, and packing activities to ensure quality and efficiency.
- Work Coordination: Schedule and coordinate work activities to ensure projects and tasks meet established deadlines and budgets.
- Hiring & Scheduling: Participate in hiring processes, interview candidates, oversee onboarding, and establish staff work schedules.
- Resource Planning: Plan and estimate labour, materials, and equipment needed for operations.
- Procurement: Requisition and order supplies, materials, and tools required for greenhouse and maintenance activities.
- Technical Maintenance: Utilize hand and power tools to perform minor repairs, adjustments, and troubleshooting of equipment and systems.
- Monitoring & Reporting: Monitor progress, cost of work, and productivity; prepare and submit estimates, reports, quote sheets, and bid forms.
Candidate Profile
- Minimum 2 years of hands-on experience as a greenhouse supervisor or in a similar role.
- Proficient with automated greenhouse environmental control systems.
- Skilled in crop scheduling and commercial potted plant production.
- Strong ability to identify and manage plant pests, diseases, and nutrient deficiencies.
- Proven ability to supervise, train, and coordinate teams, including TFW staff.
- Fluency in English and Spanish is required to effectively supervise staff, communicate safety protocols, and maintain records.
- Skilled with hand and power tools; able to troubleshoot greenhouse systems.
- Strong organizational, planning, and problem-solving skills.
- Knowledge of workplace safety procedures and biosecurity standards.
- Adaptable to changing conditions and seasonal workloads.
Education & Qualifications
- Formal education not required; training in horticulture, greenhouse operations, or safety is an asset.
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation required.
- Willingness to obtain pesticide or fertilizer certification if required.
Mental/Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform tasks such as bending, kneeling, climbing, and standing for long periods.
- Comfortable working in varying greenhouse conditions, including heat, humidity, and cold.
- Strong problem-solving, planning, and decision-making skills.
- Attention to detail and ability to manage staff, monitor production, and maintain accurate records.
Required Work Schedule
- This is a full-time, on-site position. Regular working hours are Monday to Friday, 7:30 AM to 4:30 PM.
- Flexibility to work extended hours, weekends, or holidays during peak production periods is required to meet greenhouse operational needs.

- Reports To: Director of Operations
- Supervises: Greenhouse and Maintenance teams, including TFW staff.
- Collaborate With: Production, Logistics, and Facilities Teams
