Addiction Services Central Ontario is seeking an experienced, highly motivated and energetic individual to work as a Group Facilitator 1 and Info/Referral/Intake 1. The incumbent will work three days per week as a Group Facilitator 1 and two days per week as an Info/Referral/Intake 1. As Group Facilitator 1, you will facilitate groups such as educational/treatment groups and in our Back on Track (BOT) program to assist persons who have been convicted of impaired driving or registered a blood alcohol level in the 'warn range'. As an Info/Referral/Intake 1, you will provide intake/information/referral to potential clients and assessment services to agency clients. This position will also provide an agency orientation to clients seeking service within the agency. This position provides services in various capacities to ensure the organization meets the needs of clients where they are located.

This position will be based in the Aurora office location, reporting to the Assigned Supervisor

ASCO is required to follow all public health and provincial directives as well as of those of our Ontario Health Team partners as related to the pandemic and other health issues that may come forward, including but not limited to vaccination requirements.

This is a full-time permanent position for 35 hours per week, with a minimum of two evenings per week, weekend work is also expected (i.e., some Saturdays). The hourly wage rate is $29.75 for 21 hours (3 days) worked as a Group Facilitator 1 and $29.43 for 14 hours (2 days) worked as Info/Referral/Intake 1. This position is within the Bargaining Unit.

Group Facilitator 1 Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Assessment
  • Determine the client's level of substance use as well as other risk-taking behaviours and referral to the education program or to the treatment program.
  • Education Program
  • Facilitate/co-facilitate a structured educational group to clients in accordance with ASCO requirements.
  • Be available to do other group facilitation within the Agency, as required,
  • Treatment Program
  • Facilitate/co-facilitate a structured group treatment to clients in accordance with ASCO requirements.
  • Be available to do other group facilitation within the Agency, as required.
  • Follow-Up
  • Conduct follow-up sessions with individuals who have participated in the education program or treatment program, as required by ASCO.
  • Supervision
  • Participate in regular supervision with the Supervisor, or as determined by ASCO.

Info/Referral/Intake 1 Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Entry, Screening and Intake
  • Provides potential clients with an orientation to the agency's programs and services.
  • Reviews the agency consent to services process with the client.
  • Makes initial judgment regarding the need for an urgent response in selected cases and provides information to appropriate staff.
  • Obtains detailed information on the phone and/or in person required to facilitate case assignment and to initiate the assessment and counselling, case management or peer support process.
  • Makes initial judgements on the basis of admission criteria regarding admission of clients to clinical programs.
  • Receives and distributes documentation related to intake processing and initial clinical interventions.
  • Provides intake/information/referral information to clinical team meetings and clinical consultations.
  • Information and Referral
  • Provides resource and service information in response to requests.
  • Provides information and referral to other addiction programs and services both within the Central LHIN, and outside the boundaries.
  • Provides external resources to those individuals who may be inappropriate for programs and services offered by the agency.
  • Reviews pre-intake entry forms submitted online to determine appropriate program. and/or service. Follows-up with individual directly to provide additional information and/or external referral, if required.
  • Reviews SR Fax referrals that Addictions Withdrawal Management Services (AWMS) receives from medical providers to determine appropriate program and/or service and follow-up directly with the individual that has been referred to ASCO services to provide additional information and/or external referral, if required.
  • Receives calls from the Eastern York Region North Durham Mental Health and Addictions Wellness Centre and follow-up directly with the individual that has called the Wellness Centre phone line for help with navigating the appointment booking page.
  • Community Consultation
  • Provides resource and service information in response to client requests.
  • Provides other community resource information to those individuals who are inappropriate for agency programs and services.
  • Community Relations
  • Responds to the enquiries from professional service providers (e.g. crisis team staff, physicians, nurses and guidance counsellors).
  • Assists professional service providers in making appropriate referral requests.
  • Maintains an up-to-date resource list of resources available in the community.
  • Collaborates with organizations in the community to best support clients.
  • Attends weekly meetings at various Situation Tables consisting of multi-sector providers throughout York Region, and participates in collaboratively identifying and resolving situations of Acutely Elevated Risk (AER).
  • Drive/Operate and Provide services on the Mobile Rapid Access Addictions Medicine (M-RAAM) unit, when assigned.
  • Administration
  • Enters intake information into the electronic intake form, the agency's data base and information management systems.
  • Establishes and maintains Clinical Resources files for agency staff and post current information on bulletin boards.
  • Ensures daily tasks and responsibilities are conducted with an Anti-Oppression and Anti-Racism (AOAR) framework and through an AOAR lens.
  • Comfortable with using a range of technological platforms to support virtual meetings, trainings, etc.
  • Ensures the confidentiality of all information received is maintained.
  • Professional Development
  • Participates in clinical staff training programs and skills development courses as per the Clinical Supervisor or Clinical Director.
  • Keeps up to date on emerging trends, treatments and programs related to substance and gambling addictions.
  • Provides training to the clinical staff regarding the entry, screening and intake functions.
  • Contributes to agency research projects, as required.
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • College Diploma in one of the social sciences or a health-related discipline, Bachelor's degree, an asset.
  • Member or member in progress with one of the regulatory colleges under the Regulated Health Professionals Act ex: College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario; Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers.
  • Formal training or education and experience in crisis intervention and management.
  • Sound knowledge, awareness and understanding of anti-oppression and anti-racism (AOAR) practice.
  • Strong knowledge base in substance use and problem gambling and continuum of use.
  • Experience working with people with substance use and/or mental health issues, an asset.
  • Ability to work in a harm reduction context.
  • Excellent interpersonal, problem solving, and administrative skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills; attention to detail a requirement.
  • Competent in relevant computer applications, particularly Microsoft Office and Outlook.
  • Ability to work both on a team and independently.
  • Proficient in use of data management systems; a knowledge of TREAT is preferred.
  • Ability to work from a trauma-informed approach.
  • Screened for Back on Track (Triton), a definite asset
  • Previous experience facilitating groups for Back on Track, a definite asset
  • Ability to facilitate groups to diverse clients with substance use issues
  • Ability to foster a strong therapeutic alliance with clients
  • Proven ability to do presentations to clients, the general public and other service providers
  • Excellent organizational and administrative skills and ability to work independently
  • Excellent English communication skills, both verbal and written
  • The ability to provide services in French and any additional languages a definite asset

  • A valid driver's license and access to an insured vehicle
  • A successful Police Vulnerable Sector Check, as per agency policy and procedures
