About Durham Christian Homes (DCH)

Guided by Christian values, DCH enriches the lives of our tenants within our independent living communities.

Position Summary

Reporting to the CEO, the Community Life Coordinator (CLC) plans, coordinates, promotes, and delivers engaging, accessible programs and events for tenants at our Whitby independent living sites. The CLC works collaboratively with the Residents' Council, volunteers, local churches, community partners, and long-term care program teams to enhance tenant well-being and community connection.

Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Assess tenant interests and develop programs that support independence and quality of life
  • Plan, organize, promote, and lead regular activities, special events, outings, and fundraisers
  • Collaborate with and support the Residents' Council
  • Create and distribute monthly activity calendars and tenant communications
  • Coordinate volunteers, including recruitment, orientation, and supervision
  • Liaise with community partners, churches, and service providers
  • Coordinate pastoral care activities aligned with tenant needs
  • Support marketing, fundraising, and Friendship Hall rentals
  • Monitor budgets, supplies, attendance, and program effectiveness
  • Maintain accurate records and ensure compliance with policies, safety, and infection control
  • Identify and apply for relevant grants and community resources
  • Report observed changes in tenant needs that may affect programming
  • Participate in committees as required

Qualifications

  • Diploma or degree in Recreation, Gerontology, Activation, or related field preferred
  • 2 years' experience in retirement or senior living programming preferred
  • Strong organizational, communication, public speaking, and computer skills
  • Experience coordinating volunteers and events
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends
  • Valid driver's licence and access to a reliable vehicle
  • Fundraising experience considered an asset

Conditions of Employment

The successful candidate will be required to:

  • Provide a current Police Record Check, including Vulnerable Sector Screening
  • Comply with Durham Christian Homes' Coronavirus Immunization Policy
