Your opportunity: Working under general direction, and working with other members of the Office of Student Engagement, the Student Life Coordinator (Leadership Programs) will assume responsibility for creating and maintaining innovative and interactive student leadership training, education and development programs for undergraduate, professional and graduate students at the University. Based on established research regarding co-curricular life in higher education, leadership theory and practice, and on a thorough understanding and practice of democratic principles, the Coordinator will develop and implement initiatives that foster civic responsibility and community engagement in support of the University’s strategic goal of enhancing the student experience. The Coordinator will be responsible for promoting involvement in co-curricular life on campus and in the wider community, and in the support, establishment and operation of leadership programs for student leaders, student societies and recognized campus groups. The Coordinator will build the capacity to meet the leadership training and education needs within the University by delivering workshops, where appropriate, and identifying resource people within and outside of the University who can also assist in meeting those needs. The incumbent works closely with other members of the Office of Student Engagement staff, and partners both within theUniversity and in the outside community and displays and understanding of the University’s commitment to equity and diversity. Your responsibilities will include: Planning and implementing components of curricular and/or co-curricular programs and activities Planning and overseeing the implementation of an evaluation framework for programs and initiatives Conducting detailed analysis on program efficiency and student learning outcomes to inform program planning activities Promoting experiential learning opportunities Fostering cooperative working relationships with a wide variety of internal and external contacts Facilitating educational workshops and seminars Advising students on co-curricular, academic and personal matters by providing options and consequences incorporating personal circumstances impacting academic success and an understanding of an individual's background Developing strategiesthat maximize outreach to students Essential Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree or an acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience. Formal training and/or education in at least one of the following areas: higher education, student affairs, leadership development, facilitation or conflict resolution. Minimum four years experience in program development and delivery through a combination of student affairs, campus or community organizations, government or related sector. Experience designing and facilitating workshops in small, medium, and large groups. In-depth understanding of student governments, other campus organizations and University policies and procedures related to student life and activities. Working knowledge of student development theories and leadership development theories. Excellent organizational, interpersonal, conflict mediation, troubleshooting and problem solving skills. Superior communication skills relevant to student and campus life. Demonstrated commitment to diversity and equity. Excellent presentation, facilitation, and training skills.
