SUMMARY
Reporting directly to the Senior Finance Manager, the Senior Accountant is responsible for overseeing day-to-day accounting operations, ensuring accurate financial reporting, and maintaining strong internal controls across the CIPP business unit. This role combines hands-on accounting responsibilities with financial analysis and business support. The successful candidate will work closely with operations and management to provide clear financial insights, ensure compliance with accounting standards, and support the company's ongoing financial integrity and performance.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assist the Senior Finance Manager with month-end and year-end closing process to ensure results are timely and accurately recorded and reported
- Assist in preparing financial statements, supplemental reports and related analysis to facilitate management review.
- Ensure timely balance sheet account reconciliations and variance analysis are completed and uploaded into Blackline
- Oversight of intercompany transactions, ensuring timely reconciliations and settlements to minimize unnecessary balance sheet exposures to intercompany balances.
- Provide support with the audit process by providing necessary documentation, and schedules and addressing questions/inquiries from the external auditors.
- Assist in the preparation of the annual budget and forecasts and provide monthly variance analysis.
- Lead the billing and cash collection function with the end goal of maximizing cash flow as measured versus DSO targets.
- Manage the day-to-day cash flow of the organization, work with the Treasury department on cash targets.
- Prepare and submit monthly provincial tax, GST and WCB reporting/reconciliations.
- Provide support and be involved in implementation of financial and business systems.
- Serve as a business partner to the operations group, deliver pertinent information the group needs to make informed decisions and to help grow the business.
- Must be able to work in a matrixed organization and develop relationships with operational admins, centralized AP clerks and other corporate individuals.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Chartered Accountant (CPA) designation
- 3–5 years of progressive accounting experience (full-cycle preferred)
- Must have strong computer skills with a high level of proficiency with Microsoft Office/Excel and internet applications. Previous experience with JD Edwards would be an asset.
- Experience with creating financial statements, general ledger functions and the month-end/year end close process
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills and you enjoy being part of a team while building relationships across departments
- High level of integrity and dependability with a strong sense of urgency and results-orientation mindset
- Proactive, organized, welcomes challenge and meets deadlines
- Accounts Payable experience an asset
- Consistent punctuality and reliability a must
- Detail-oriented, organized, have excellent time management skills and be dedicated to consistently producing quality work
- Ability to multi-task and be flexible in a fast paced environment,
