WestCorp Solutions is seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineer to support our client's Tailings Assets in Fort McMurray, AB. This role provides mechanical engineering support from planning through execution and follow-up of LSD (Leak Seal), NDE, and slurry piping maintenance activities, ensuring safe, reliable, and efficient operations. The ideal candidate brings strong tailings or slurry systems experience and thrives in a field-focused environment.

Location: Fort McMurray, AB

Contract Length: 6 months with potential for extension.

Schedule: 7 days on, 7 days off, 12-hour days

Travel FIFO: Client-chartered flights from Edmonton or Calgary

Travel Local: Client-provided bussing available at beginning and end of set.

Note: Daily commuting is not permitted; all workers must stay in camp during scheduled work rotations.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide mechanical engineering support for tailings equipment including spools, slurry lines, barges, pumps, valves, and related assets.
  • Plan, coordinate, and schedule LSD and NDE work; complete field walkdowns and verify work readiness.
  • Develop and update piping scopes, sketches, drawings, and Bills of Materials (BOMs) for spool changes and mechanical repairs.
  • Review contractor SOWs, respond to RFIs, and address technical questions from operations, supply chain, and vendors.
  • Support Root Cause Analysis (RCA) activities, prepare reports, and implement corrective actions.
  • Manage spare parts requirements and oversee post-LSD replenishment activities.
  • Develop and manage Management of Change (MOC) documentation for Coarse Tailings, Fine Tailings, Drainage Systems, and Wells.
  • Prepare SOWs for shutdowns, mechanical lifts, spool changes, and wear-related maintenance.
  • Collaborate with the Reliability team to analyze asset data such as wear rates, deterioration, and equipment service life.
  • Support Operations and Maintenance with field observations and follow-up tasks as required.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Practicing P.Eng. registered with APEGA (or immediately eligible).
  • 5–10 years of experience in Tailings, Slurry Systems, or Primary Extraction within heavy industrial operations.
  • Demonstrated experience with slurry piping, wear/erosion mechanisms, and mechanical repair scopes.
  • Strong ability to develop mechanical scopes, interpret technical drawings, and create BOMs.
  • Experience supporting LSD, NDE, MOC, and RCA processes.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to collaborate across multidisciplinary teams.
