JOB SUMMARY:

The Financial Accountant applies knowledge of accounting theory and procedures to perform general accounting duties and project work.

COMPETENCIES:

  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Word and Excel software programs
  • Good communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills
  • Demonstrated strong attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy
  • Must be knowledgeable in accounting theory and procedures
  • Knowledge of SAP would be considered an asset

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Reconciles General Ledger monthly

  • Analyzes and provides clarification of accounts for managers as required

  • Recodes incorrect invoices, credit notes and General Ledger entries
  • Inputs journal entries in SAP
  • Supports cost-reduction and process-efficiency opportunities
  • Updates departmental budget templates
  • Prepares diverse financial reports on a regular basis
  • Participates in the analysis of the annual expense budget
  • Participates in preparation for year-end audit

  • Assists auditors by responding to questions and gathering information

  • Recommends and develops improvements to accounting processes on an on-going basis

  • Provides assistance to the Finance Manager as required

REQUIRMENTS:

  • Post-secondary accounting diploma or certificate

PREFFERED:

  • University degree with a concentration in accounting, or community college accounting diploma
  • Currently a professional accountant (CPA, CGA, CMA, CA), enrolled or planning to enroll in a professional accounting program
  • Accounting experience in a manufacturing environment
