SUMMARY
The Director of Engineering is a high-impact leadership role that blends technical expertise in CIPP engineering with strategic business development and client relations. This individual will guide our engineering team in delivering innovative trenchless solutions while also driving revenue growth, building client partnerships, and identifying new market opportunities. This role is ideal for Professional Engineer with a proven success in business development within the construction or infrastructure rehabilitation industry as a licensed Professional Engineer (PE), this role will also carry responsibility for stamping engineering designs, drawings, and traffic control plans, ensuring compliance with provincial and local regulations.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Lead the development and enforcement of engineering standards, SOPs, and compliance across Canada.
- Review and approve designs to ensure technical accuracy, safety, and adherence to industry standards.
- Maintain and update the Professional Practice Management Plan (PPMP) and Permits to Practice across provinces.
- Provide technical input during bid preparation, tenders, and negotiations with clients and engineers.
- Support operations and project management by resolving design, installation, and QA issues.
- Lead troubleshooting and provide solutions for technical and product challenges.
- Develop and deliver training programs for engineers, designers, and operations staff.
- Organize internal and third-party training seminars on pipeline rehabilitation technologies.
- Represent ITL in industry committees and standards organizations (e.g., APEGA, AWWA, NASTT, NASSCO).
- Contribute to the development of national and international pipeline rehabilitation standards.
- Act as a key technical resource for expanding Insituform markets, with focus on industrial and pressure pipe opportunities.
- Conduct business development activities including preparing forecasts, managing CRM updates, and supporting client outreach.
- Build and maintain relationships with clients through technical presentations, meetings, and specification influence.
- Represent ITL at national and international conferences as a speaker, moderator, or panelist.
- Identify gaps in product data and provide recommendations for new products, markets, and innovations.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Registered as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in Alberta; eligibility for registration in other provinces is an asset.
- 10+ years of engineering experience, with preference for Cured-in-Place Pipe (CIPP) or trenchless rehabilitation industry experience; other construction industry backgrounds will be considered.
- Authorized and experienced in stamping engineering designs, drawings, and traffic management plans.
- Strong knowledge of APEGA Professional Practice Management Plan (PPMP) requirements and provincial Permits to Practice.
- Demonstrated ability to provide technical leadership, review and approve complex designs, and ensure compliance with standards.
- Experience working with clients, consultants, and regulators on technical and business matters.
- Background in business development activities such as client outreach, forecasting, and supporting market growth.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to represent the company at industry events and committees.
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities with a track record of delivering practical engineering solutions.
