Role Description: The Bike Builder is a unique and fun position that allows you to indulge in your love of bikes in a positive, team-based environment. The Bike Builder builds bicycles for inventory and for customers, as well as dealing with repairs and mechanical issues. This role requires a willingness and drive to learn and the ability to work well with your hands. Superior focus, multitasking abilities, and communication skills are essential to success in this position. Professional experience not required, but experience building and maintain bikes and mechanical aptitude are assets. The Bike Builder reports to the Sports Manager. Must have flexible evening/weekend availability. Starting wage range: $19.00-$25.00/hr.

Responsibilities & Tasks:

  • Able to do small quick tasks for customers (changing flats, making minor adjustments).
  • Eager to learn new skills, such as: assembling new bicycles; installing, adjusting, and/or replacing speed and gear mechanisms, handlebars, stands, lights, seats, etc.; aligning wheels; repairing tires; and other tasks and duties.
  • Estimates cost and time for service and repairs needs. Ensures work and product are delivered on time.
  • Assists in maintaining a clean, safe, and well-merchandised store and repair room.
  • Schedules service and repair appointments.
  • Complies with company, store and department policies and health & safety program and regulations.
  • Polite, friendly, and enthusiastic interactions with customers needing repairs or service.
  • Completes other tasks, as required.

Core Competencies:

  • Willingness to learn about bicycle building, repair, and maintenance.
  • Experience with bikes is considered an asset.
  • Knowledge and understanding of mechanical components of bicycles is not required, but is an asset.
  • Ability to work autonomously, multitask, and prioritise.
  • Good problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work with other in a positive manner.
  • Must be able to routinely lift 25-50 lbs.
