As a Construction Estimator at Chandos, you'll play a vital role in the success of our projects by preparing accurate and timely full-cost estimates. Your expertise in materials, labour, and equipment costing will directly impact our competitiveness and profitability.
What You'll Do
Prepare and coordinate full-cost estimates for a variety of project types: Conceptual, Design-Build, Construction Management, IPD, Lump Sum, and general tender work
Develop material, labour, and equipment cost breakdowns based on project proposals, plans, and specifications
Establish unit costs, labour rates, productivity factors, and account for location impacts
Source and evaluate competitive material and equipment pricing for each tender or pursuit
Recommend allowances for indirect costs, design unknowns, escalation, and contingency
Identify and develop competitive advantages to improve bid success
Attend pre-tender site visits and meetings to fully understand project scope
Review design options and suggest solutions based on cost, quality, and availability of materials
Support negotiations on contracts, change orders, and subtrade buyouts in collaboration with the operations team
Participate in client interviews and presentations for project pursuits
What You Bring
Post-secondary degree or diploma in Construction, Engineering, or a related field
3+ years of experience in estimating or project coordination with a commercial general contractor
Ability to read and interpret building specifications, schematics, and as-builts
Strong mathematical and analytical skills to prepare material and labour estimates and interpret job-cost reports
Proficiency with cost-estimating software for preparing quotes and bids
Solid working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, and Adobe
Awareness of current market conditions and competitors within the industry
