Role Responsibilities

As a Senior Business Analyst, you'll play a pivotal role in shaping the future of traffic safety systems and services across Alberta. This is your opportunity to lead complex, high-impact projects that improve how programs and applications serve Albertans—ensuring they are efficient, user-friendly, and aligned with legislative and policy frameworks. You'll work with diverse stakeholders, influence strategic decisions, and help modernize critical business applications that support driver, vehicle, and carrier services.

In this dynamic role, you'll lead the development and enhancement of business processes, applications, and policies that directly support the Division's strategic goals. You'll apply your analytical expertise and project leadership skills to deliver innovative solutions that meet complex legislative and user needs. Collaboration, adaptability, and strategic thinking are essential as you navigate competing priorities, manage change, and build consensus across internal and external stakeholder groups.

Your key responsibilities include:

  • Leading end-to-end project planning, execution, and evaluation to support service modernization and policy alignment.
  • Collaborating with cross-functional teams to identify core issues, define requirements, and develop sustainable solutions.
  • Developing business cases, user stories, process maps, and project documentation that reflect legislative and program needs.
  • Managing risk assessments, change requests, and post-implementation reviews to ensure continuous improvement.
  • Facilitating stakeholder engagement, training, and change management activities to support adoption of new tools and processes.
  • Supporting usability and user acceptance testing (UAT) and ensuring business applications meet user and program expectations.
  • Designing and maintaining operational reports, access protocols, and data integrity processes in compliance with legislation.
  • Representing the Division in working groups, committees, and vendor engagements to advance modernization initiatives.

Qualifications

Required:

  • A related university degree (e.g., Business, Finance, Data Science/Analytics, Information Technology, Economics, etc.) and a minimum of four (4) years of progressively responsible related experience. Equivalencies may be considered.

  • Proven experience leading projects from planning through to successful implementation.
  • Strong skills in gathering and documenting business requirements in various formats (e.g., process maps, standard operating procedures, training materials).

Preferred:

  • Training in Lean Six Sigma methodology and experience applying these principles.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification.
  • Experience supporting business applications and conducting user acceptance testing.

Equivalencies are:

  • A related two-year diploma and a minimum of six (6) years of related experience; a related one-year certificate and a minimum of seven (7) years of related experience; or a minimum of eight (8) years of related experience in lieu of formal education.

Additional Position Details:

  • This position is a permanent, full-time role with the standard weekly work hours of 36.25, Monday to Friday (8:15 am – 4:30 pm). 
  • This role requires in-office presence at Twin Atria Building, Ave, Edmonton, AB T6B 2X3
