Clifton is currently searching for Junior Geotechnical Engineers to join our Earth Sciences practice team in our Calgary, Regina, and Saskatoon locations. In this role, you will work with a dynamic group of professionals across a broad range of disciplines and play a key role in the delivery of professional engineering services for a variety of exciting geotechnical projects throughout the province.

Key Responsibilities

  • Participate on a wide variety of geotechnical projects, including field investigations; laboratory testing and interpretation; geotechnical analysis; and construction inspection.
  • Work on large, complex, or multidisciplinary projects according to client-approved scopes of work and deliver high quality reports on time and within budget.
  • Coordinate and execute geotechnical field programs for infrastructure, buildings, land development, and slope stability projects. Will involve drilling geotechnical boreholes and logging of soils and rock.
  • Analyze field data and prepare detailed engineering reports and recommendations required for the assessment and design of shallow and deep foundations, retaining structures, and earth structures.
  • Coordinate and execute geotechnical field inspection of construction works and foundation installations, including testing of geotechnical materials.
  • Ensure effective task management, including accountability for time, budget, and technical requirements of assigned projects.
  • Maintain positive client, sub-consultant, and co-worker relationships.
  • Act as a safety leader and champion for Clifton's health and safety program.
  • Ensure adherence to Clifton's Quality Management System (QMS) in project delivery, including contracts management.
  • Other duties, as assigned.

Required Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil, Geotechnical, Geological or Mining Engineering. Preference given to candidates who have obtained a Graduate Degree in Geotechnical or Geological Engineering.
  • Registered, or eligible for registration, as an Engineer in Training (EIT) with APEGS.
  • One to five (1-5) years of relevant geotechnical or geological experience working in the consulting or mining industry.
  • Experience using geological modelling and geotechnical software (Slope W, Rocscience, FLAC, etc.) an asset.
  • Strong organizational skills, including effective management of multiple and conflicting priorities with the ability to meet deadlines, in the context of work/life balance.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication, time, and team management skills.
  • Proficient with the Microsoft Office suite of products.
  • Ability to travel to various locations (including remote locations) to complete field work, as required.
  • Must possess a valid Class 5 Driver's License and be comfortable driving mid- to full-size trucks in urban, rural, and construction environments.
  • Continued attention to safety and safe work environments, with a strong workplace safety orientation.
