Internal Contacts: Assembly Workers, Welders, Material Handlers, Quality Control

Responsibilities

Job Planning and Execution

  • Reads and interprets blueprints, specifications and instructions and be aware of opportunities to improve designs or assembly processes.
  • Fits and welds pieces to specific requirements in the fabrication process
  • Assembles and repairs welds on final truck assembly
  • Determine the appropriate welding equipment, set up and technique based on build specifications
  • Align components using Straightedge, Combination square, etc. and clamp pieces
  • Tact welds or welds components and assemblies, using electric, gas, arc, or other welding equipment

Maintenance

  • Cleans and services equipment
  • Maintain equipment in a condition that does not compromise safety, including replacing damaged or worm components

Qualifications

Education

  • Minimum High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Journeyman Welder or Year 2-3 apprentice welder
  • Related trades courses are considered an asset

Experience

  • Minimum 2 years of welding experience
  • Experience reading prints and drawings
  • Aluminum/Tig welding experience is an asset

Competencies (skills, abilities, knowledge)

  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints to determine dimensions, tolerances, and layout of work
  • Ability to read and understand the imperial system of measurement
  • Comfortable working in varying environments including stationary weld station and on and around heavy equipment; able to comfortably lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Proficient in the use of Oxy/fuel cutting equipment, electric welding machines
  • Proficient in the use of GMAW, FCAW, SMAW welding processes and procedure
  • Take pride in delivering a quality customer product
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
  • Strong attention to detail required, with the ability to look ahead in the work process
  • Ability to rapidly shift tasks to meet changing priorities
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to practice safe work practices and properly use PPE

Working Conditions

Work is primarily conducted on the manufacturing floor, which can be noisy and dusty. The employee must provide CSA-approved safety footwear. All other Personal Protective Equipment will be provided. Consistent use of appropriate PPE is a requirement of this position.
