Job Summary:

Provides basic personal care for each resident under the direction of the RN, RPN, or LPN and supervision of the Garrison Crossing's Home Care Coordinator. Participates in social and activity programs, and maintains an environment in a clean, tidy, homelike atmosphere.

Qualifications and Requirements:

• Minimum Grade 10 education.
• Resident Care Attendant basic certification from a recognized college.
• One-year related experience preferred or an equivalent combination of training, education, and experience acceptable to Elim Village.
• Current First Aid/CPR certification.
• Current Registration with BC Care Aide & Community Health Worker Registry.

Key Responsibilities:

• Works to maintain residents' autonomy and independence by supporting them to do as much of their own ADLs themselves as possible. Ensures that residents practice frequent and safe mobility.
• Provides comprehensive personal care such as bathing, dressing, care of mouth, teeth, hair, nails, feet, skin, and feeding. Offers liquids/nutrition frequently and reports any nutrition concerns.
• Toilets residents (bowel and bladder training) and reports elimination habits, inserts suppositories, administers cleansing enemas, and application of condoms catheters.
• Encourages residents' interactions, becoming involved in the activities program, and respecting residents' religious beliefs.
• Demonstrates strong interpersonal skills in meeting residents' needs, including providing compassionate support including during end-of-life care and assisting their families.
• Uses correct lifting and transfer techniques.
• Maintenance of the environment such as controlling and minimizing noise and odors, cleaning up spills on floors and furniture, and general tidying of the environment for comfort.
• Maintenance of proper infection control such as washing hands between residents. Retains knowledge of facility-wide and health authority practices, infection control policies, and protocols.
• Prevents, eliminates, reduces, and/or reports safety hazards.
• Skilled at measuring T.P.R., weight, and height.
• Regularly attends in-service and training programs.
• Follows admission procedures by preparing units for new admission, welcomes new residents, and completes required forms.
• Uses and cares for equipment and its cleansing, and conserves supplies.
• Performs related duties as required/assigned.
• Recognizes that residents who are independent are opening their homes to have care delivered and they as the home support worker are guests in the homes

• Is alert to, remedies, and promptly reports all actual or potential hazardous situations to the appropriate personnel (ie: maintenance, owners).
• Promptly reports personal injury to Supervisor and seeks first aid as needed.
• Participates in fire safety demonstrations and fire drills and keeps up-to-date with Elim Village's fire and disaster plans.

Responsibilities to Health and Safety:

• Is a competent person as defined by the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
• Is knowledgeable of employee responsibilities and follows all health and safety policies and procedures.
• Works safely to reduce the risk of injury to self, co-workers, and residents.
• Is alert to and promptly reports all actual or potentially hazardous situations to the immediate supervisor, seeks first aid as needed, and does not operate or use faulty equipment.
• Participates in fire safety demonstrations and fire drills and knows the facility fire and disaster plan.
• Resident Safety:
• Provides personal and environmental interventions to ensure residents are protected from injury.
• Follows instructions for safety as stated on the care plan; Activities of Daily Living (ADL), and Care Standards Manual e.g. Mobilizing, transferring, and positioning residents; knowing and implementing emergency procedures as required; Preventing infection; practicing safe feeding techniques; practicing personal care; promoting a safe environment such as safety of equipment and safety of work areas.

Position:Temporary Full Time 0.8 FTE

Start Date: February 1st, 2026

Hours of Shifts:

• Tuesday: 7:00-13:00
• Wednesday: 7:00-13:00
• Thursday: 15:45-21:45
• Friday: 15:45-21:45
• Every other Saturday: alternating between night shift (23:00-7:00) and short evening shift (15:45-21:45)
