Established in 1970, Aventa Centre of Excellence for Women with Addictions is a leader in trauma-informed, gender specific, abstinence-based, addictions treatment for women. Through a multi-disciplinary team approach, Aventa delivers a trauma-informed curriculum researched and written by Dr. Stephanie Covington. Aventa's operating funding is provided through provincial and federal governments; Aventa has been partnered with the Alberta government since 1971. Aventa is accredited with Exemplary Standing through Accreditation Canada.

We Need:

Aventa is seeking motivated, experienced, flexible, Client-focused Counsellors to work as part of our incredible team. Positions involve working with women (18+ years old), who have complex mental, physical, social health needs. The ideal candidates will be kind, compassionate and organized, and have experience in effective crisis intervention, solution-focused approaches, good communication and computer skills. With skill and professionalism, Counsellors provide trauma-informed support and interpersonal interventions on the floor that empowers women with addictions to change their lives.

This posting is intended to build a pool of qualified candidates for current and future vacancies. Applications will be reviewed on an ongoing basis, and selected candidates may be contacted as positions become available. Aventa offers full-time and casual opportunities. Our standard shifts include:

· Day: 7:30am - 4:00pm

· Afternoon: 2:00pm - 10:30pm

· Evenings: 3:30pm - 12:00am

· Nights: 11:30pm - 8:00am

While all shifts have varied activities, as a Recovery Support Counsellor with Aventa, a typical shift may include:

  1. Responsible for the supervision of Clients, ensuring safety, serving of meals and medication observation.

  2. Respond to any emotional or medication crisis/distress of the Clients using a trauma-informed approach.

  3. Delivery of psychoeducational and recreation activities in a group setting.

  4. Ensure proper documentation and management of Client files. This includes observing, recording, and reporting on Client progress and challenges, documenting and distributing critical incidents according to policy, completing various forms and documents required for accountability and accreditation purposes, writing case notes, ensuring proper release of information records are in place, and protecting the confidentiality of Client records.

  5. Various administrative and housekeeping tasks, as required, to ensure quality Client care and smooth functioning of the organization. This may include making beds, doing laundry, dishes taking out garbage or general cleaning.

  6. At times maybe required to search Clients' belongings as they arrive/leave the program, as well as during room searches.

  7. May require being responsible for the intaking and discharging of Clients and all necessary paperwork and procedures.

  8. Conduct drug and alcohol screening and collaborating documentation.

  9. Requests/facilitates case consultations with relevant members of the team to ensure effective assessment, treatment/safety planning and intervention.

  10. Participate in ongoing team meetings, training, and clinical supervision, some of which may be outside of the regularly scheduled shifts, in such situations team members are paid for their participation.

  11. Contributes actively to a positive and supportive team learning environment.

The ideal candidate:

· A diploma in Social Work, Psychology, Counselling, or related field, with a minimum of 1 year experience working in a live-in setting.

· Familiarity working in the areas of trauma, addictions, and mental health.

· A positive attitude and excellent problem-solving skills.

· Ability to work as a member of a team as well as independently.

· Ability to take initiative and demonstrate reliability and flexibility.

· Excellent communication, interpersonal and organizational skills.

· Proficient computer knowledge.

· A clear Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Search and Child Welfare Intervention Check (dated within 6 months).

· Up to date Standard First Aid and Suicide Intervention (e.g. ASIST) is required prior to hiring.
