POSITION SUMMARY

The Project Coordinator works closely with the Culture and Community Development team to help make Inverness County a great place to live by supporting a range of community development initiatives.

The position plays a key role in strengthening community capacity by providing project coordination, administrative support, funding development, partnership engagement, and performance reporting across multiple community development priorities ensuring initiatives are accessible, delivered effectively, and in alignment with municipal priorities. This includes supporting the implementation of strategic plans and initiatives that build and sustain strong communities, such as improving access to food resources, transportation, childcare, and housing; advancing arts, culture, heritage, and local traditions; and fostering meaningful community engagement through collaboration with community organizations, municipal departments, and regional partners.

This position is based on thirty-five (35) hours per week, with some evening and weekend work expected. Travel throughout Inverness County, and occasionally beyond, is required. The department has offices in Port Hood and Inverness; remote or hybrid work may be accommodated.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

•    Coordinate the planning, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of community development projects and action plans.

•    Support the delivery of initiatives related to community wellbeing, including food access and local food security, and other economic development priorities.

•    Collaborate with municipal departments, community organizations, service providers, funders, and regional partners to advance shared objectives.

•    Provide hands-on support to community organizations with project planning, program design, funding applications, budgeting, compliance, and reporting.

•    Identify, pursue, and manage funding opportunities aligned with community development and municipal priorities.

•    Track project activities, timelines, milestones, and outcomes to ensure initiatives are delivered on time and within budget.

•    Develop and maintain project documentation, funding reports, financial claims, and related communications.

•    Strengthen community capacity by connecting organizations with resources, training, partnerships, and funding programs.

•    Demonstrate initiative and systems-level thinking in proposing solutions to access challenges.

•    Contribute to departmental and municipal priorities through additional community development initiatives as required.

•    Contribute to capacity-building by connecting organizations with relevant resources, training opportunities, partnerships, and funding programs.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

•    Strong written and verbal communication skills, including experience with grant writing and reporting.

•    Advanced organizational, planning, budgeting, and time-management skills.

•    High emotional intelligence and ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders, including vulnerable populations.

•    Practical, solution-oriented approach to project coordination in complex community systems.

•    Practical, solution-focused approach to coordinating projects in complex community environments.

•    Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.

•    Understanding of food security, poverty reduction, community development, and municipal and non-profit systems.

•    Knowledge of funding systems and grant administration processes.

•    High degree of professionalism, discretion, and ability to maintain confidentiality.

•    Proficiency with Microsoft 365 (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams).

•    Knowledge of Mi'kmaq, French, or Gaelic is considered an asset but not required.

QUALIFICATIONS:

•    Post-secondary degree or diploma, or equivalent experience, in a related field such as Community Development, Public Health, Social Sciences, Project Management, or Business.

•    Minimum of three (3) years of experience working or volunteering in the community or non-profit sector.

•    Demonstrated experience with project coordination, partnership development, and funding or grant management.

•    Experience supporting initiatives related to food programs, social services, or community wellbeing is considered an asset.

•    Valid driver's license and access to reliable transportation.

•    Report all near-misses and incidents 

•    Report related injuries or property damage regardless of severity.

•    Submit reports on accidents and other hazardous conditions discovered and promptly attend to all hazardous situations.

•    Participate in inspections and assist with the implementation of corrective actions as required.
