About Harmonaire Musique

Harmonaire Musique Association is a federally incorporated Canadian non-profit organization dedicated to advancing classical music and supporting emerging Canadian artists. We are currently seeking highly qualified, committed, and visionary individuals to join us as Board Members (Volunteer Positions).

About the Board Member (Volunteer Position)

Each Board Member (Volunteer Position) plays a critical leadership role in overseeing the organization's mission, strategic direction, financial health, and legal compliance. Board Members are responsible for ensuring organizational integrity, accountability, and sustainability while championing our commitment to artistic excellence and community impact.

Key Responsibilities

Governance & Strategy:

  • Participate in establishing and regularly reviewing the organization's mission, vision, values, and long-term strategic plans.
  • Provide oversight to ensure alignment of programs and initiatives with organizational goals.

Fiduciary Duty:

  • Exercise prudent financial stewardship by approving budgets, monitoring financial performance, and ensuring compliance with federal and provincial laws and regulations.

Risk Management & Compliance:

  • Identify and mitigate organizational risks.
  • Ensure the organization adheres to all legal, ethical, and regulatory obligations, including those pertaining to governance, human resources, and financial reporting.

Fundraising & Resource Development:

  • Actively support and promote fundraising initiatives.
  • Leverage networks to expand sponsorship, grant opportunities, and community partnerships.

Advocacy & Representation:

  • Serve as ambassadors of Harmonaire Musique, representing the organization professionally in the community, with stakeholders, and the public.

Meetings & Committees:

  • Attend and actively participate in Board meetings (virtual or in-person) and committee meetings as assigned.
  • Engage constructively in decision-making and policy development.

Qualifications and Attributes

Ideal candidates will demonstrate:

  • Proven leadership experience in non-profit governance, arts administration, business, law, finance, or related fields.
  • Strong commitment to the mission of promoting classical music and nurturing emerging Canadian artists.
  • Excellent strategic thinking, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to commit sufficient time and effort to fulfill Board duties effectively.
  • Integrity, professionalism, and sound judgment.
  • Experience or willingness to engage in fundraising and community outreach.
  • A collaborative mindset and respect for diversity, equity, and inclusion principles.

Time Commitment

  • Minimum commitment of one year, with staggered terms renewable annually.
  • Attend Board meetings during the year (estimated 2–3 hours each).
  • Participate in Board committees as appropriate (estimated 2–4 hours monthly).
  • Additional time for special projects, events, and fundraising activities as needed.

Eligibility Requirements

  • Must be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident.
  • Must have no conflict of interest that would impede objective governance.
  • Must demonstrate a clear understanding and acceptance of the fiduciary responsibilities of a Board Member.

  • A cover letter outlining relevant experience, interest in the role, and commitment to the mission of Harmonaire Musique.

Selection Process

  • Applications will be reviewed by the Governance Committee.
  • Selected candidates will be invited for an interview.
  • Final appointment will be confirmed by the full Board.
