Your role:
The VMWare Migration Specialist is responsible for the planning, design, and execution of migrating, and validating many virtual machines (VMs) from a mature VMWare environment to an alternate VM platform. You will use your 8+ years of experience in virtual environments to ensure the safe migration, leading the team and utilizing migration tools to action, verify, and measure the stability and performance of the migration.
Your responsibilities:
- Plan, engineer, and lead the VMWare Migration project
- Collaborate with Infrastructure, Security, NetOps, ITOPS, and other stakeholders to ensure successful migration and post-migration support
- Develop scripts to automate the activity to minimize the amount of manual work for the large-scale migration project
- Execute the VMWare migration with minimal disruption to core business services
- Assist in the management of current VMWare environments including ESXi hosts, vCenter, and virtual networks during the migration
- Document all migration steps, processes, and configurations to ensure meeting all Global Relay's compliance requirements
About you:
- 8+ years of experience with deep understanding of major virtualization platforms, including VMWare
- 3+ years' experience in migrating VMWare to other platforms is a plus
- Experience with Open Source software and/or service management tools and applications (Satellite, Puppet, Zabbix, etc.)
- Experience with complex IT infrastructure architecture planning, design, and implementation
- Adaptability to working with multiple teams on projects with varying degrees of flexibility/rigidity at different points in the development cycle
- Ability to develop and maintain positive working relationships
- Ability to work in a team environment and independently as needed
- Ability to adapt to change and work well under pressure
- Excellent communication, organizational, interpersonal, problem solving, and documentation skills
- Solid understanding of networking/firewall concepts and their role within an application development environment is considered an asset
- Strong scripting and automation proficiency in at least one of the following scripting languages: Powershell, Python, Bash
- Experience with configuration management tools: Ansible, Puppet, Terraform
Compensation:
Global Relay advertises the pay range for this role in compliance with British Columbia's pay transparency laws. Individual pay rates are determined by evaluating factors such as expertise, skills, education, and professional background.
The range below reflects the expected annual base salary, which is only one element of our comprehensive total rewards package designed to reflect our company pay philosophy, culture and values. We aim to foster an inspiring work environment and support employees' work-life rhythms. We provide a comprehensive extended health benefits program, including virtual healthcare and a wellness allowance. Employees also receive annual allotted vacation days, which increase based on tenure. Other benefits include: Paid sick days, maternity/parental enhancement program, bonus, and an RRSP contribution matching program.
