Summary

We are looking for a creative and energetic individual with exceptional customer service and leadership skills, who has knowledge of, and experience working in a community setting.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Complete intake and assess needs of individuals and families and refer to programs and services.
  • Effectively respond to individuals in crisis, ensuring appropriate actions are taken.
  • Assist families and other individuals access the appropriate inhouse and external programs.
  • Arrange for or facilitate programs that enrich and strengthen family life through education and preventive programming.
  • Engage community agencies and organizations to build positive relationships and to identify community needs, and advocate for and/or develop programs and services.
  • Assist in the recruitment, selection, training, supervision and evaluation of program staff and volunteers
  • Organize program events in the community.
  • Compile and submit program, outcome, monthly and yearly reports.

The successful candidate will also possess:

  • A Degree or Diploma in the human services field and/or equivalent experience
  • A valid driver's license, and dependable vehicle
  • Knowledge of social systems and issues relevant to African community and programs and resources
  • Preventative social services and innovative practice methods
  • Experience working with families and organizations
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills; and excellent organizational skills
  • Connect with diverse learners, including youth
  • Problem-solve and think on your feet
  • Be highly organized with excellent time management skills

Professional communication skills: both verbally and in writing

  • Demonstrate strong oral and written communication skills
  • Public speaking ability to facilitate meetings, instruct programs and represent Ruth's House at community events.
  • Ability to work well with others and positively contribute to a team atmosphere
  • Strong computer skills

This role requires the employee to work weekends and evening during the programs. Flexibility in working hours is mandatory.
