Position Overview

The Autism Support Specialist provides one-on-one support to a child enrolled in our childcare program who has been diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). This role focuses on fostering the child's social, emotional, and developmental growth within a safe, inclusive, and nurturing environment.

The specialist will work closely with the classroom team to ensure the child can fully participate in daily routines and activities, while receiving individualized attention and guidance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide consistent one-on-one support to the assigned child throughout the day, including during play, meals, transitions, and group activities.
  • Implement strategies and adaptations that promote communication, engagement, and emotional regulation.
  • Collaborate with educators and the Centre Director to follow and refine the child's individualized support plan.
  • Support social interactions and inclusion with peers in a positive, developmentally appropriate manner.
  • Observe and document the child's progress, challenges, and successes, communicating regularly with the teaching team and leadership.
  • Ensure the child's physical and emotional safety at all times.
  • Maintain confidentiality and professionalism in all interactions.

Qualifications

  • Strong communication, observation, and collaboration skills.
  • Current First Aid/CPR and clear vulnerable sector check or willingness to obtain one.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $16.50 per hour
