Role Description

This is a full-time, on-site position for 4th, 3rd, and 2nd Class Operating Engineers located in Kapuskasing, ON. The Operating Engineer will be responsible for supporting the daily operation of three biomass combustors and two gas-fired boilers

Position: Power Engineer(s) Location: Kapuskasing, ON – Papermill

Salary: As per the collective agreement

  • Assistant Operator / 4th class: starting wage $32.55 per hour

  • Junior Operator / 3rd class: starting wage $35.05 per hour

  • Senior Operator / Shift Engineer / 2nd class: starting wage $37.51 per hour

Requirements:

· Education/Certification: Ontario (TSSA) Power Engineering License.

· Experience with operating boiler equipment via DCS & their auxiliaries is an asset.

· Willing to learn in a fast-paced industrial environment.

· Participation in the current training matrix for progression toward the next highest Power Engineering license.

· Strong level of maturity, interpersonal and communication skills.

Responsibilities:

· Performs testing on all boilers and condensate systems.

· Assists with the operation of gas boilers.

· Adjusts chemical feed rates to maintain residuals.

· Visually checks equipment under his care (fans, stokers, grates, dampers, valves, and controllers) on all levels of the Steam & Effluent Plant.

· Blows down water columns and gauge glasses.

· Monitors softeners for hardness and regenerates softeners when necessary.

· Mixes and maintains caustic tank and feed rates.

· Assists during plug-ups on wood waste system.

· Assists Biomass Operator on loader at times.

· Changes charts and performs data entry in computer.

· Records any operational problems in the operation logs.

· Changes various filters around the plant (precip, degasifier, MCC room, etc.).

· Assists with lockouts.

· Assists with the chemical unloading.

· Checks and starts up air compressors when required.

· Performs duties as assigned by the Steam Supervisor as required (other mill areas
