Position Description

We are seeking highly qualified candidates for a Clinical Research Project Assistant (CRPA) position with Child Health Evaluative Sciences (CHES) at the Research Institute at the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto, Canada. The CRPA will become a core member of a research group that aims to contribute knowledge in the field of infectious diseases and child health. The CRPA will work closely with Principal Investigators and team members on a range of observational and interventional studies.

As a member of CHES, plus the Division of Infectious Diseases and Centre for Global Child Health, the successful applicant will interact with a dynamic community of researchers and trainees focused on infectious diseases and child health outcomes.

Here's What You Will Get To Do:

  • Assist Clinical Research Project Coordinator and Principal Investigators with all research activities, including general project management, protocol and SOP development, ethics submissions, contracts, managing budget, timelines, and deliverables.
  • Provide information and documentation for potential study participants (consents, patient eligibility items, required pre-study testing, roadmaps).
  • Confirm eligibility of patients (confirm criteria for eligibility satisfied, signed consent available) and register

    patients.
  • Recruit participants and families/legal representatives in the pediatric emergency room, inpatient units, or pediatric intensive care unit
  • Obtain informed consent/assent as necessary from participants and their families/legal representatives
  • Perform data collection and database entry including checking data for accuracy and completeness
  • Extract data from patient medical records into research databases
  • Liaise with study partners (e.g., microbiology lab, biochemistry lab, hospital wards, etc.)
  • Assist with administrative tasks related to the research grant applications
  • Conducts project specific follow-up visits either by telephone or in-person visit with participants and their families/legal representatives
  • Assist in ensuring that specimen samples collected for research purposes are transferred and stored in the appropriate facilities
  • Contribute to proposal development, report writing and presentation of research findings
  • Understand importance and demonstrates ability to foster a culture of Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion.

Here's What You Will Need

  • Master's degree in public health, health services, epidemiology, social work, psychology, or other related health research field
  • Prior clinical training or experience is preferred
  • Experience with research contractual/legal agreement, research ethics boards, and familiarity with ICH-GCP guidelines preferred
  • Sensitivity to ethical issues; ability to maintain privacy and confidentiality
  • Knowledge of research methods, and challenges pertaining to participants and their families
  • Excellent communication skills: written and oral
  • Demonstrated organizational and problem-solving skills
  • Demonstrated ability to be self-motivated and self-directed
  • Interpersonal skills and stakeholder/relationships management skills (experience working with patients and clinicians)
  • Experience with inpatient recruitment is an asset
  • Ability to function independently yet collaboratively within a team
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and meet deadlines
  • Intermediate computer experience: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • Experience using data capture systems (ex. REDCap)
  • Strong motivation to contribute to building a research team focused on improving children's health
