Information Services Technician

The MD of Taber is hiring one full-time permanent Information Services Technician. The Information Services Technician is a pivotal role within the MD of Taber, responsible for delivering various aspects of Information Technology functions, including conducting technology research, systems setup, configurations, maintenance, troubleshooting, and user support, This role requires a blend of technical expertise and interpersonal skills to ensure the efficient operation of IT functions, provide user support, and maintain internal and external relationships. This is an in-office/on-site position.

Key Work Activities

• Serve as the primary contact for technical support requests, providing timely assistance and troubleshooting for hardware, software, and systems issues across all users.
• Test fixes and ensure incidents are adequately resolved before closing service requests.
• Research solutions through internal and external knowledge bases as needed.
• Develop help sheets and FAQ lists for end users.
• Conduct and support technology-based user training and onboarding.
• Perform onsite analysis, diagnosis, and resolution of complex computer problems
• Identify and learn appropriate software and hardware used and supported by the organization.
• Establish and maintain technology inventories and related information.
• Support organizational telecommunications systems
• Support and participate in domain systems security development.
• Assist with corporate projects, annual general meetings, public presentations, meetings, functions which require technical support, some of which may occur outside of regular hours.
• Carry out IT department initiatives as directed by Supervisor.
• Enhance own knowledge and practice of the position and field through professional development and trainings.
• Adhere to Municipal District of Taber policies and procedures, which may change from time to time
• Other duties as may be assigned.

Qualifications and Requirements

A combination of education and/or experience related to this position may be considered.

• Post-secondary Degree or Certificate in Computer Information Technology or a related discipline. Adequate, relevant experience in an Information Technology support role.
• Ability to present technical ideas and instruction in user-friendly language.
• Advanced computer skills and familiarity with mainstream applications, including the Microsoft Suite of applications, server management and application management.
• Familiarity with coding and process and workflow automation is considered an asset.
• Class 5 Driver's Licence with a satisfactory Driver's Abstract.
• Well-developed interpersonal skills, with a focus on building rapport, listening, and questioning skills.
• The ability to work in an environment with shifting priorities and variable workloads depending on those priorities.
• Attention to detail.
• Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly in both written and oral formats.
• Customer-service-orientated and experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.

Working Conditions

• In-office and on-site which may include any MD of Taber facilities or locations.
• Requirement to spend time both indoors and outdoors.
• While indoors, the technician may spend long hours sitting using office equipment and computers.
• While outdoors, the technician may be working alone in remote locations, including operating a motor vehicle.
• Normal safety precautions are required, including the wearing of personal protective equipment such as safety boots, helmet, high visibility vest, and hearing protection.
• The role may require some physical exertion such as long periods of standing, walking over rough, uneven terrain, and recurring bending, crouching, stooping, and reaching.
• Lifting of heavy items is required from time to time.
• Work requires average physical agility and dexterity.
