The division centralizes and supports industry clients to develop customized non-credit corporate training for their employees and take their innovative product and process ideas to market locally, nationally and internationally. Within CDARI sits a number of support functions including Business Operations, Continuing Education, International, Corporate Training, Applied Research, and Business Intelligence.
The Role
The Subject Matter Expert (SME) is to make use of any and all available resources, methods, techniques and strategies to ensure curriculum enables student success in an engaged, face to face environment. The Subject Matter Expert is expected to work collaboratively with colleagues and product strategists to create a learning atmosphere which is pedagogically sound, technically supported, and innovative in nature.
SAIT is looking for a SME to review current course content and provide a statement of work for updates to the following courses: DSGN 001 Electrical Design Level I and DSGN 002 Electrical Design Level II. This effort requires a specialized skill set and there is significant value in engaging a SME who is currently active in the industry and has prior experience in major electrical design projects.
Initial SME contract would be 10 hours for consultation and design.
Currently, the first level electrical design course demonstrates the significance and requirements of design in the construction of buildings and facilities. The instructor will guide learners through theoretical and practical electrical design concepts and drafting techniques for commercial facilities, lighting and motor control applications. Electrical Design training topics also include:
- How to interpret and draw electrical symbols
- Illumination design
- Choosing and protecting conductors
- Distribution systems
Completion of a major commercial electrical design project incorporates analysis, calculation and design competencies.
The second-level Electrical Design course applies advanced concepts of electrical design and drafting to industrial installations, including distribution and branch circuits.
Additional electrical design topics covered include:
- Hazardous location classification
- Hazardous location installation
- Canadian Electrical Code and industrial design calculations
- Artificial and high resistance grounding
- Industrial electrical design project
Canadian Electrical Code requirements is discussed in conjunction with the design project, and drawings will be completed using AutoCAD Release 2000 and an Auto Electric software package.
During the engagement, the SME will be responsible for:
- Attend all SAIT training as required.
- Achievement of School initiatives and Objectives.
- Be an active and engaged member of the School.
- Adhere to all safety legislation, guidelines and safety standards as required.
- Maintain contact with relevant industry sectors.
- All other duties as required for the position.
Qualifications- Minimum diploma in Architecture, Geographic Information Systems, or Engineering is considered an asset. An equivalent combination of directly related education and experience may be considered
- Recent experience using 2020 Autodesk software
- 5+ years of experience in training or teaching is considered an asset
- Experience and fluency with Office 365 (MS Word, Outlook and PowerPoint)
- Experience with videoconferencing technology (MS Teams, WebX, Skype or Zoom)
- Fluent in English reading and vocabulary
- Positive & respectful attitude
- Ability to read, interpret and deliver specific curriculum
- Excellent communication skills
- Ability to organize and present written information
- Experience with a Learning Management System (Brightspace or Moodle is an asset)
- Training and knowledge of adult learning fundamentals
- Formal training or education in facilitation or teaching
- Formal training in online technologies
- Experience with curriculum development or instructional design
