JOB PURPOSE:

  • The Youth Mental Health Coordinator ("The Coordinator") is responsible for designing and facilitating inclusive, trauma-informed, and culturally grounded programming for youth that combines physical activity with creative expression. The coordinator will foster a safe space for youth to explore wellness through sport, art, and cultural identity, with a focus on building confidence, community connection, and emotional well-being.


This position plays a key role in preventing isolation and promoting resilience among youth by offering positive, structured outlets and encouraging healthy lifestyle habits. Programs will be responsive to youth needs and designed in collaboration with community Elders, Knowledge Keepers, wellness staff, and other stakeholders.

Duties include, but are not limited to:


Plan and deliver weekly sports nights, recreational games, and seasonal activities for Youth struggling with Mental Health challenges and/or Youth in recovery from previous Mental Health challenges (e.g., soccer, basketball, traditional Indigenous games)


Organize and facilitate youth art workshops, including painting, music, beading, drama, and storytelling


Work collaboratively with Elders and cultural advisors to integrate traditional teachings, ceremonies, and land-based activities


Create a safe, inclusive, and empowering environment for youth of all backgrounds and abilities


Build trusting relationships with youth and provide informal mentorship


Promote leadership, teamwork, and emotional regulation through sports and arts


Coordinate with mental health and wellness staff to support youth who may require additional services


Track attendance, participation, and progress of youth in programming


Plan and host community showcases or sports tournaments that celebrate youth talents and achievements


Promote harm reduction, strengths-based approaches, and cultural identity development


Participate in community events and outreach efforts as a representative of the Youth Wellness team


Ensure safety, cleanliness, and respect of program spaces and materials


Maintain accurate documentation and support evaluation of program outcomes

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND REQUIREMENTS:

  • Diploma or degree in recreation, youth work, social work, kinesiology, fine arts, education, or a related field


Minimum 2 years experience working with youth in a community or educational setting


Experience facilitating sport and/or arts programming


Familiarity with Indigenous culture, traditions, and wellness practices


Training in trauma-informed practice, de-escalation, or youth mental health is considered an asset


Valid Alberta Class 5 Driver's License


Additional experience or training in threat/risk assessment and/or trauma response, as well as training in brief intervention approaches


Valid Alberta Driver's License


Satisfactory Criminal Records Check

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Required to work full-time: 40 hours per week. 8:30 A.M. to 4:30 P.M. Monday to Friday Will be required to work some evenings and weekends when required. While adhering to the Enoch Cree Nation Human Resources Policy & Procedure Manual.
