About the Role
As a Senior Business Operations Support Manager, you will drive operational excellence, support critical cross-functional initiatives, and ensure smooth execution of business processes across the organization. You'll partner with stakeholders in multiple departments to optimize workflows, solve complex operational challenges, and deliver measurable results that advance Upwork's strategic goals. You'll leverage data insights to guide decisions, and champion automation to streamline operations, free up resources, and scale impact. This role will report to the Chief of Staff to the CFO.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee planning and execution of operational initiatives, ensuring projects are delivered on time, on budget, and to quality standards.

  • Identify process improvements, propose solutions, and work with teams to implement automation tools and technologies to improve speed, accuracy, and scalability.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional leaders to align operational strategies with organizational goals and priorities.

  • Establish clear metrics and reporting to monitor progress toward KPIs and drive continuous improvement.

  • Ensure clear, timely, and effective communication across stakeholders to maintain alignment and momentum.

What it takes to catch our eye

  • 7–10 years of experience in business operations, finance, or strategy roles — ideally supporting executive leadership or acting as a Chief of Staff, BizOps, or FP&A lead.

  • Proven success driving operating rhythms, leading cross-functional projects, and delivering high-quality executive outputs.

  • Strong analytical skills and data fluency — you can translate numbers into insights and insights into action.

  • Demonstrated ability to design and implement automation or efficiency solutions that materially improve business performance.

  • Exceptional communication and storytelling skills; you can turn complexity into clarity and present with executive polish.

  • Calm under pressure, thrives in ambiguity, and knows how to prioritize when everything feels important.

  • Operates with integrity, judgment, and a collaborative spirit — a trusted partner who can flex between strategy and execution.

This position will initially be employed through a partner to ensure a seamless hiring process while we establish the hub. Once the hub is established, there may be opportunities to transition to employment with Upwork depending on business needs and other requirements.
