About the Role
We are looking for a hands-on Senior Purchasing Associate to help elevate our purchasing and inventory management practices as we grow. This role blends operational purchasing with data-driven inventory management and vendor performance. You will work closely with the Purchasing & Inventory Manager to translate demand and data into purchasing strategies, while still being comfortable rolling up your sleeves to place orders, manage vendor relationships, and maintain clean data in the ERP.
Key Responsibilities
- Own the end-to-end purchasing process: demand review, PO creation, confirmation, expediting, and issue resolution.
- Review inventory levels, backorders, reorder points, and safety stocks; make recommendations to adjust settings to balance service level and working capital.
- Analyze KPIs (fill rate, backorder rate, aged inventory, vendor lead times), purchasing and inventory data, provide insights and recommendations, turning those into concrete action items.
- Support data governance for items and vendors: pricing updates, MOQs, reorder multiples, units of measure, vendor part numbers, and related attributes.
- Support the design and maintenance of vendor scorecards (OTIF, lead time adherence, pricing accuracy, OS&D performance, etc.).
- Lead regular vendor touchpoints for assigned suppliers: review open orders, delivery performance, pricing updates, and opportunities for improvement.
- Collaborate with warehouse, customer service, and sales to understand demand patterns, recurring issues, and opportunities to improve availability and service levels.
- Support continuous improvement projects (e.g., improving PO workflows, refining ERP fields, supporting new tool/ERP features) that support our SLA and promote scalability, supporting growth objectives.
- Promote pricing and item maintenance, ensuring system accuracy.
- Mentor more junior team members on best practices in purchasing, vendor communication, and data quality.
Qualifications
- 4–6+ years of experience in purchasing, procurement, or supply chain within distribution, retail, or e-commerce environments.
- Strong understanding of purchasing principles, including demand planning, reorder logic, lead time management, and economic order quantities (EOQ).
- Experience measuring and analyzing internal and supplier performance using KPIs.
- Strong analytical skills and comfort working with data (ERP reports, SQL querying, Excel, or BI tools) to support decisions on inventory and purchasing.
- Familiarity with item and vendor data structures (pricing, part numbers, units of measure, locations).
- Experience with NetSuite or a similar ERP is a strong asset.
- Ability to balance strategic thinking with day-to-day execution—willing to dive into details while keeping an eye on bigger-picture goals.
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills with internal teams and external vendors.
- Strong knowledge and experience on Lean principles for process improvement.
- Self-starter mindset, comfortable working in a growing, entrepreneurial environment where processes are still evolving.
