Our client is a design-build residential renovation and millwork firm committed to transforming homes through thoughtful craftsmanship, innovative design, and sustainable building practices. Projects are delivered using a collaborative, team-based approach that brings together sales, design, architectural technology, project coordination, site supervision, and skilled trades to ensure seamless execution from concept to completion.
Position Summary
The Senior Architectural Technologist is a key member of the design-build team, responsible for leading architectural drafting, estimating support, and permitting processes for custom residential renovation projects. This role blends strong technical expertise with creative problem-solving, leadership, and close collaboration with designers, site teams, and clients. The position includes mentoring junior technologists while also managing projects directly.
Key Responsibilities
Design, Drafting & Technical Leadership
- Lead and mentor junior architectural technologists while managing assigned projects
- Create custom architectural solutions based on sales consultations and interior design concepts
- Develop detailed drawings using AutoCAD, Revit, and 3D design software
- Ensure all drawings are permit-ready and compliant with the Ontario Building Code
- Prepare millwork production drawings and supporting documentation
- Produce trade drawings for permits, client sign-off, and construction
- Conduct site visits, take final measurements, and support site meetings
- Prepare as-built drawings as required
Estimating Support
- Review drawings to identify required subcontractor scopes
- Issue drawings to subcontractors for pricing
- Oversee junior staff in coordinating window and component quotes
Permitting & Compliance
- Support permit submissions and approvals following client authorization
- Attend municipal meetings as required
- Coordinate with engineers, consultants, and municipal departments
- Close permits following final inspections
- Maintain current knowledge of OBC and Ontario Health & Safety regulations
Collaboration & Client Interaction
- Work closely with designers, cabinetmakers, sales teams, and site supervisors
- Provide technical support to site teams and subcontractors
- Communicate effectively with clients and project stakeholders
- Participate in team meetings, training, and continuous improvement initiatives
Qualifications
- Architectural Technology diploma or degree
- BCIN designation required
- 5–10 years of experience in architectural technology within residential construction or renovation
- Strong knowledge of the Ontario Building Code and Health & Safety regulations
- Proficiency in AutoCAD and Revit
- Solid working knowledge of MS Office (Teams, Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint)
- Valid Ontario driver's license, reliable vehicle, and insurance
