Position Summary
The
Senior Architectural Technologist
plays a central role in the design-build process-leading architectural drafting, overseeing permitting, supporting estimating, and guiding junior technologists. This role requires strong technical knowledge, creativity, and hands-on project involvement from concept through execution.
Key Responsibilities
Design & Drafting
- Lead and mentor junior architectural technologists.
- Develop creative design solutions based on sales consultations and interior design concepts.
- Produce detailed drawings using AutoCAD, Revit, and 3D modeling tools.
- Ensure all drawings meet Ontario Building Code (OBC) and permit requirements.
- Prepare millwork production drawings and trade-specific documentation.
- Conduct site visits, take measurements, and develop as-built drawings.
- Participate in site meetings and provide technical solutions throughout the project lifecycle.
Estimating Support
- Identify required sub-trades based on drawings.
- Distribute drawings and gather quotes.
- Oversee junior staff on window quotations.
Permitting & Compliance
(activated upon client approval)
- Coordinate permit submissions and manage municipal approvals.
- Attend city meetings when required.
- Collaborate with engineers, consultants, and municipal departments.
- Close permits following final inspections.
- Maintain current knowledge of OBC and Ontario Health & Safety regulations.
Team Collaboration & Leadership
- Work closely with designers, cabinetmakers, sales teams, site supervisors, and subcontractors.
- Mentor junior team members and support continuous learning.
- Participate in staff meetings, training, and project reviews.
Client & Site Interaction
- Provide technical support to site teams and subcontractors.
- Communicate clearly with clients and project stakeholders.
Qualifications
- Architectural Technology diploma or degree.
- BCIN certification required.
- 5-10 years of experience in residential architectural technology.
- Strong knowledge of the Ontario Building Code and Health & Safety regulations.
- Valid Ontario driver's licence, reliable vehicle, and insurance.
- Proficient with AutoCAD, Revit, and MS Office (Teams, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook).
- Assets: AI tools, ChatGPT Business, Smartsheet.
Work Environment & Physical Demands
- Office-based role with regular field/site visits.
- Prolonged computer use, desk work, and meetings.
- Occasional bending, kneeling, walking on uneven ground, and working at heights.
- Ergonomic equipment available (sit-stand desk, wrist rests, monitor arms).
- Standard office noise levels; repetitive tasks such as typing and screen time.
