Program Overview
The Local Immigration Partnership (LIP) is a community-based partnership that involves a range of stakeholders in the planning and development of collaborative and innovative solutions to enhance newcomer settlement. Partners include service provider organizations, levels of government, school boards, professional associations, ethno-cultural organizations, faith-based organizations, and the community. JVS is the lead agency for the Toronto North LIP (TNLIP), one of four quadrant LIPs in Toronto.

We're looking for someone who will:
Carry out research work in support of TNLIP projects and activities including:

• Coordinate in-depth and ongoing research to better support local community agencies in their service to newcomers in North and East Toronto incorporating three areas of focus: Health, Settlement, and Employment;

• Produce regular community-based trends and demographic snapshots of Toronto North and East;

• Support the planning, coordination, and implementation of extensive community research for the purpose of community plan development; identify, keep track of, and reach out to diverse stakeholders and research participants; prepare for, schedule, advertise, coordinate, and run focus groups and community consultations; collect and interpret data, and publish research findings;

• Plan, conduct, and publish results of environmental scans, literature reviews, existing research and media scans as background information in support of partnership and work groups activities;

• Lead community research data collection and analysis; support writing of TNLIP Community Plan;

• Monitor select news, media, information, communication, and research outlets for content related to newcomer settlement; read and summarize key findings applying knowledge translation process to ensure research findings and information is accessible and can be put into practice;

• Produce research snapshots, infographics, and information bulletins;

• Develop research proposals, goals, establish research methods and conduct both qualitative & quantitative analysis, as needed;

• Reach out to stakeholders involved in relevant research; coordinate research efforts and work collaboratively on research projects

Take responsibility for TNLIP communication vehicles and platforms including:

• Implement, maintain, and update the TNLIP Communications Strategy

• Issue bi-weekly newsflashes and quarterly newsletters

• Update and maintain TNLIP website

• Propose, develop, and execute social media strategy

• Maintain and update TNLIP YouTube and LinkedIn

• Establish, monitor, and report on web analytics data and communication metrics

• Proofread, edit, design, and publish reports, environmental scans, meeting minutes, presentations, recordings, etc. in line with TNLIP branding guidelines

• Compile, design, and publish the Annual Activity Report for our members and public

• Maintain accessible and up to date communication and marketing materials; ensure relevant collateral and files are stored and accessible to team members (MS SharePoint)

• Maintain and update member, stakeholder, and contact database; create and maintain distribution lists, subscriber lists, and other member records; produce regular attendance and engagement reports; analyze engagement trends and make recommendations for sustaining and increasing participation

Support the success of TNLIP by working across roles including in the following ways:

• Be the go to person for new and innovative communication and research tools, apps, and processes

• Support team-initiatives such as participating in planning of events, agenda development, minute taking, outreach, facilitation, and attending in-person and virtual events as needed

• Support the continued implementation of the Inter LIP Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) InterLIP Framework

• Monitor general mailbox for TNLIP team and several other email accounts

• Support promotion and knowledge transfer of NewTO mobile app; ensure app is up to date on app stores; communicate with developers; monitor and report on user stats

• Onboard new members

Minimum Qualifications & Experience:

• Bachelor's degree in Social Science, Political Science, Community Planning, International Development, Media and Culture, Communications, Knowledge Integration, or a related field. International degrees must be evaluated for Canadian equivalency.

• 2-5 years of related experience in research and communication

• Ability to travel frequently across GTA and run both in-person and on-line meetings

• Ability to plan ahead, work on several projects simultaneously, and apply time and project management skills to stay organized and deliver work on time

• Experience conducting and coordinating complex research projects including community consultations and community based research in non-profit settings

• Experience, ease and comfort with using Office 365 applications (SharePoint, Word, Outlook, Forms), Excel at intermediate and higher level, WordPress, Canva Teams, Asana (or other PM software), CRM as well as Tableau, Survey Monkey, and AI applications like ChatGPT

• Existing expertise in coordinating and leading community meetings

• Comfortable with public speaking, especially in sharing research outcomes to community partners

• Strong interpersonal skills; comfortable regularly networking and making connections

• Sensitivity to diversity and ability to work with vulnerable populations and professionals

• Strong verbal and written communication skills; ability to write reports quickly and cohesively

Our ideal candidate will also have:

• A Master's Degree or higher with experience conducting primary research

• Proven ties and strong familiarity with Research and Communications

• Strong knowledge-base of immigration, settlement and community programs (including familiarity with employment, health and settlement)
