Founded in 1894, Tyndale is located in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.POSIRION PURPOSEThe Public Services Librarian manages, promotes and delivers library services to the Tyndale community by providing a full range of information services, including reference, instruction, and access to information and research resources.PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIESLeadershipEstablish and implement short and long-range departmental goals.In collaboration with the University Librarian, recruit, develop, motivate, lead, and mentor direct reports (including student workers).Ensure the recruitment, training, supervision, and evaluation of department team members (including student workers) are based on agreed-upon measurable objectives, and corrective action is taken where necessary.Ensure the duties of the Public Services team are carried out in compliance with the Library's and Tyndale's policies and procedures.Create and sustain an environment of excellence and professionalism in customer service and teamwork.Reference and InstructionActively promote the library and its services to students and faculty.Respond to reference and research questions in person, or by phone, email or other electronic means.Teach information literacy skills to students and faculty by means of library workshops and in-class library sessions and online tutorials.Coordinate Library orientation sessions and tours.Create and update online library research guides.Public Services AdministrationSupervise and coordinate all aspects of Public Services for Tyndale Library including: desk coverage, library signage, circulation policies and procedures.Manage personal requests, lost books, outstanding accounts, and other customer service matters.Oversee the general appearance of the library, recommending needed changes.Compile an annual report on the Public Services department.General Library AssistanceSelect resources for the library collection in accordance with the collection development policy in areas assigned by the University Librarian.Work on other professional projects as assigned by the University Librarian.POSITION QUALIFICATIONSa) EducationAdvanced academic background in theological and Biblical studies, preferredMaster's degree in library/information science from an ALA-accredited institution Master's degreeb) ExperienceExperience providing reference/instructional services in an academic setting 2 to 3 years related experiencec) Skills and AbilitiesAbility to develop and provide reference and instructional services in an academic settingAbility to use technology effectively in public services and instructionAble to articulate departmental goals aligning with the institutional vision and missionAble to motivate, inspire and mentor othersAble to multi-task, prioritize, and work efficiently in a fast-paced environmentAble to work independently as well as part of a teamDemonstrated conflict resolution skills and ability to work effectively and productively within and across functional areasProficiency in use of internet/search engines, computer programs/applications (i.e. Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint)Strong communication and problem-solving skillsStrong inter-personal and customer service skills with the ability to be a persuasive, professional advocate for the organizationStrong organizational and administrative skills, with attention to detail and accuracyWorking knowledge of information needs of university and seminary students and facultyWorking knowledge of trends and services in academic libraries to support undergraduate and graduate educationd) Personal CharacteristicsCommitted to confidentialityCommitted to quality, accountability and integrityCommitted to Tyndale's mission, values, statement of faith and community standards statementsConfident and result orientedEnergetic, enthusiasticFlexible and consistentHonorable and ethical in simple and complex issuesIntuitive; responsive to client needsOpen, transparent, trustworthy and respectful in all interpersonal relationshipsPassionate about higher education and desirous to play a key role in preparing students to become exceptional members of societyPassionate about serving family, church, work and communityProfessional and tactfulRespectful, supportive and appreciative of cultural and ethnic diversitySelf-starter and team orientedPositive attitudee) Physical and Mental DemandsLight physical effort (ability to lift up to 20lbs or equivalent)Moderate stress from multiple project deadlines and multiple distractionsModerate to high level of stress that may result from dealing with emergencies, personnel issues, negotiating and liaising with multiple deadlines and demandsSitting and using office equipment for long periods of timeWork outside of regular business hoursSalary Range: $60,000 - $66,000How to ApplyExternal candidates can apply for the position at the External Career Center.
