Job Description

AECOM Buildings + Place, is seeking a motivated and skilled Senior Mechanical Engineer to help lead buildings projects (commercial, institutional, light industrial facilities, such as Water and Wastewater Treatment Plants and Sewage Lift Stations) This position can be based out of Markham/Thornhill office with opportunities for hybrid work. Some travel to nearby cities may be required. This role offers opportunities for career growth. 

AECOM Buildings + Places Canada (B+P Canada) is a vibrant and growing fully integrated team spanning architecture, all the building's engineering disciplines, landscape architecture, urban planning, urban design, economics and asset management for design and infrastructure projects. Project assignments may include, although not limited to: Municipal, Commercial, Institutional projects, Justice, Education and Government.  

Major Responsibilities:

  • Mechanical Project Lead responsible for design and construction administration.
  • Independently perform all the tasks necessary to complete primary design at the early stages of the project and develop the concept to high quality detailed design, co-ordinate with all disciplines.
  • Design HVAC, Controls, Plumbing and Fire Protection systems.
  • Perform HVAC calculations and analysis using industry programs (Carrier HAP).
  • Perform calculations, conduct design drawing reviews, and field investigations.
  • Ensure design conforms with all applicable codes and client standards.
  • Write/ edit mechanical specifications.
  • Travel to construction sites to conduct mechanical inspections and prepare reports. Some out-of-town travel expected.
  • Must participate in business development and writing proposals.
  • Must be able to prepare written reports and deliver results in a clear manner to technical or non-technical audience
  • Working knowledge of the LEED rating system, or other green rating systems.
  • Provide guidance to younger engineers.
Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

In order to be considered for this position, candidates must possess no less than:

  • University Degree in Mechanical Engineering six (6) years of experience designing HVAC and plumbing for commercial, institutional, and light industrial facilities.
  • Demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education may be considered.

Preferred Requirements:

  • Registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in Ontario.
  • 15+ years of experience.
  • Strong Consulting Industry background in Canada.
  • In-depth knowledge of HVAC (including hydronic systems) and controls.
  • Design knowledge in Plumbing and Fire Protection systems.
  • Experience in LEED/ Net Zero design preferred.
  • Well organized, self-directed work habits with a demonstrated ability to prioritize and schedule tasks managing multiple projects simultaneously in a dynamic environment.
  • Very strong communication skills, spoken and written; good presentation skills.
  • Able to work independently or as part of a team.
  • Able to obtain security clearance for government work.
