Assistant General Manager Job Description

The Assistant General Manager position reports directly to the General Manager. The AGM supports the General Manager in overseeing all daily operations of the restaurant. This role ensures the highest level of guest satisfaction, team performance and operational efficiency. The AGM leads by example, fostering a positive work environment and maintaining company standards for service, quality, cleanliness and safety.

Job Summary

Reports To: General Manager and Head Chef/Owner

Job Tasks

  • Oversee daily floor operations to ensure smooth service and an exceptional guest experience
  • Monitor table flow, staff performance, and guest satisfaction throughout service
  • Resolve guest concerns promptly and professionally
  • Support and enforce restaurant policies, procedures and service standards
  • Manage inventory levels and conduct regular stock counts
  • Order supplies in coordination with the Bar Manager, Chef and General Manager
  • Create and maintain weekly staff schedules, ensuring proper coverage for business needs
  • Assist with recruiting, onboarding and training new employees
  • Manage daily labour costs and optimize staffing levels
  • Lead by example with a focus on professionalism, teamwork and accountability
  • Motivate and coach team members to uphold company values and achieve goals
  • Conduct pre-shift meetings to communicate expectations and updates
  • Remain current on food and beverage knowledge to educate customers, promote sales, and provide a positive experience
  • Has dedication to service and hospitality – tries to ensure every guest leaves with a sense that their experience was outstanding in every way
  • Opening and closing the restaurant and upkeep high standards of cleanliness
  • Managing the restaurants security alarm system, including ensuring it's in perfect condition, enabling it and disabling it when necessary
  • Storing and protecting the security alarm codes
  • Treat customers and co-workers with respect and courtesy
  • Ensure safety of guests by verifying age and identification to responsibly serve alcohol per Smart Serve requirements
  • Operate Point of Sale software and related sales transactions including opening and closing system, handling and counting cash
  • Keep restaurant space stocked, merchandised, and clean; keep bathrooms clean, fresh and stocked
  • Health and Safety: Work safely in accordance with the Occupational Health & Safety Act and related regulations; Wear personal protective equipment as required. Follow safe food/drink handling/sanitation requirements.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 2-3 years of restaurant management or supervisory experience
  • Strong leadership, communication and problem-solving skills
  • Proven ability to manage staff, control costs and deliver consistent results
  • Availability to work a flexible work schedule, including evenings, weekends and holidays
  • Holds a valid Smart Serve certification
  • Ability to maintain a professional and courteous demeanor during busy times
  • Great at multitasking, communication, and time management skills
  • Commitment to succeed in a team-oriented environment
  • Ability to walk and stand for long periods of time
  • Ability to lift up to 50lbs
