Rodgers, and working closely with the course professor, the Sessional Lecturer provides subject matter expertise relating to educational laboratory activities related to molecular biology and provide instruction to graduate and/or undergraduate students in the Faculty of Health Sciences.The current schedule: Wednesday's 0900 – 1300 in person (North Campus) LABTo view this course description, please click the following link and enter the course code from above: Responsibilities/Accountabilities:The primary responsibility of the applicant is to (develop and) teach a theoretically, methodologically sophisticated and relevant course at the university level within the parameters of the course description listed above. In keeping with a technology-enhanced learning environment utilizing laptop computers and wireless connectivity, the Sessional Lecturer will deliver the course using a technology-enhanced learning approach that includes a variety of inclusive teaching and learning strategies and assessments. The Sessional Lecturer will prepare, deliver and grade all course material and assignments and be available for consultation with students during and following completion of the course session.This position falls within the bargaining unit represented by the Public Service Alliance of Canada (PSAC) and will be subject to the terms and conditions of the collective agreement between the University and PSAC. The collective agreement may be found on the Human Resources section of our website. Candidates will be required to certify that they are currently legally eligible to work in Canada for the duration of the contract.Qualifications:The successful candidate will have demonstrated excellent teaching contributions with a proven aptitude for teaching at the undergraduate/graduate level.Required Skills:A proven commitment to providing innovative and inclusive teaching strategiesEvidence of an ability to work in a collaborative environmentExcellent communication skills with an ability to maintain effective relationships with a range of faculty, staff and studentsCandidates will have demonstrated excellence in teaching undergraduate/graduate students in a programDemonstrated knowledge and experience with the Learning Management System, CanvasDemonstrated ability to deliver classes remotely, using online modalities such as Kaltura Media and Google MeetsProven experience managing large classes and diverse populationsExperience coordinating and supervising Teaching Assistants as applicableExcellent organizational skills are needed to effectively manage course delivery, the marking of assignments and exams and the ability respond to student enquiries in a timely mannerEducation:A Master's degree in molecular biology, molecular diagnostics, or a related field. Equivalencies will be considered.A PhD or equivalent would be considered an asset.Registration or eligibility for registration with the CMLTO as a general medical laboratory technologist (MLT) would be an asset.Experience:3-5 Years of recent relevant experience in molecular diagnostic techniques, instrumentation, and their application within a clinical or research environment (e.g., qPCR, sequencing, fluorimetry, cytometry, FISH).Preference will be given to those candidates with demonstrated experience in a healthcare-based setting involving the preparation and manipulation of clinical specimens for analysis (e.g., diagnostic testing)Preference will be given to those candidates with demonstrated teaching excellence experiences in an undergraduate and/or graduate post-secondary environmentEvidence of the candidate's teaching philosophy, courses taught and developed, and teaching effectiveness in the form of a teaching dossier may be requested.Priority will be given to an Internal Applicant who has taught any course for the University in three (3) different sessions in the past thirty-six (36) months, provided they meet the requirements for the position as outlined in the job posting.How to Apply:Interested candidates should submit in electronic format a covering letter and their resume.
