Reporting to the Dean of the Faculty of Business and IT, the Sessional Lecturer provides instruction to undergraduate students in INFR 2100U – Programming in C/C++.

Lecture -
Tuesdays 8:10am – 11:00am
Tutorial –
Fridays 12:40pm – 2:00pm

Please note that this course will be delivered in person on Ontario Tech University's north campus in Oshawa, Ontario. Unless required for student registration purposes, the schedule is not subject to change without approval from an Associate Dean and/or the Dean.

Responsibilities/Accountabilities

The primary responsibility of the applicant is to (develop and) teach a theoretically, methodologically sophisticated and relevant course at the university level within the parameters of the course description listed above.  In keeping with a technology-enhanced learning environment utilizing laptop computers and wireless connectivity, the Sessional Lecturer will deliver the course using a technology-enhanced learning approach that includes a variety of inclusive teaching and learning strategies and assessments. The Sessional Lecturer will prepare, deliver and grade all course material and assignments and be available for consultation with students during and following completion of the course session.

This position falls within the bargaining unit represented by the Public Service Alliance of Canada (PSAC) and will be subject to the terms and conditions of the collective agreement between the University and PSAC. The collective agreement may be found on the Human Resources section of our website. Candidates will be required to certify that they are currently legally eligible to work in Canada for the duration of the contract. 

Qualifications: 

In addition to the Required Education, Required Skills, and Required Experience set out below, the successful candidate will have a proven aptitude for teaching at the undergraduate level, with demonstrated potential for making excellent contributions to teaching.

Candidates will be required to certify that they are currently, and will be for the duration of the contract, legally eligible to work in Canada.

Required Education:

Candidates must have one of the following:

●      A Bachelors degree in a game development program or computer science program or software engineering program AND at least two years of industry experience related to software development for interactive media; OR

●      A College diploma in a game development program or computer science program AND at least five years of industry experience related to software development for interactive media; OR

●      A Bachelors degree in a game development program or computer science program AND documented evidence of having taught this course or its equivalent (80% of content identical to INFR 2100) at the university level within the past three years; OR

●      A Masters or PhD in a degree directly related to game development and interactive media.

Preference will be given to candidates with Masters or PhD degrees.     

Required Skills:

Technical Skills

Candidates must have:

●       Proficiency in C and C++.

●       Proficiency in repository management, code review and collaboration workflows, and debugging.

●       Knowledge of and demonstrated proficiency with modern Game Engine(s) (such as Godot, Unreal and/or Unity.

A working knowledge and/or experience with C# is an asset. 

An understanding of Game Development and interactive media software development pipeline is an asset

Candidates should outline the details of their technical skills in their application.

Teaching and Administrative Skills

Candidates must have:

●       Excellent communication skills.

●       Strong organizational skills.

●       Ability to respond to student enquiries and to grade assignments and exams in a timely manner.

●       High level of comfort with interacting with students and colleagues using online modalities such as Google Meet and Kaltura.

●       Ability to manage a course effectively using a Learning Management System.

●       An ability to develop innovative and inclusive teaching strategies.

●       An ability to communicate effectively in a multicultural and diverse community.

Required Experience

●       Preference will be given to candidates who have demonstrated excellence in teaching a technical course about gaming at the university undergraduate level. Candidates can demonstrate their competence by submitting course evaluations and/or formal peer evaluations.

Priority will be given to an Internal Applicant who has taught any course for the University in three (3) different sessions in the past thirty-six (36) months, provided they meet the requirements for the position as outlined in the job posting.
