Job Description
We are partnering with our client on a permanent Senior Accountant opportunity based in Halifax (outside of the downtown core). This is an exciting role for an experienced accounting professional who enjoys taking ownership of a portfolio and playing a key role in the financial success of multiple properties.
In this position, you will lead the full-cycle accounting for a portfolio of 4–5 properties. You will be a trusted financial partner to operations, bringing both strong technical accounting expertise and a proactive, business-minded approach.
Key Responsibilities for the Job:Manage the full set of books for multiple propertiesLead the end-to-end monthly close processPrepare journal entries, complex account reconciliations, and financial statementsServe as a financial consultant to Property/General ManagersConduct monthly financial reviews and explain results and variancesAssist in the preparation and review of annual budgetsOversee and reconcile daily cash, credit card deposits, and bank activityMonitor internal controls and identify cash shortages or policy deviationsPrepare working paper files to support external auditsMaintain fixed asset schedules and track capital expendituresEnsure proper capitalization and depreciation of assets
Experience & Attributes for Success:
Post-secondary education in Accounting or Finance with 3 - 5 years' of progressive accounting experienceCPA designation is a strong assetPrevious experience in hospitality, hotel, real estate, or multi-entity environments is strongly preferredStrong proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word, and experience with Sage 300 is highly desirableStrong analytical and problem-solving skillsExcellent organizational and time management abilitiesAbility to manage multiple properties and competing deadlinesProven ability to collaborate with property management and corporate teams
