Job Description

About our Company:

At ATS Life Sciences Systems, what we do matters – we design and build innovative, automated solutions for the healthcare industry, including medical device and pharmaceutical companies.

Summary of the Role:

You will be responsible for developing innovative automation solution proposals for the Life Sciences industry. This role requires a highly motivated individual with technical problem solving capabilities, project management skills, and a general business aptitude.

What You'll Be Doing:

  • Analyzing and understanding customer's technical requirements
  • Proposal development planning for on time delivery
  • Managing a proposal development team including ATS subject matter experts
  • Developing concepts for custom automation solutions including new innovations where possible
  • Creating machine breakdown structures (from major assemblies to full Bill of Materials) where applicable
  • Understanding and managing technical risk
  • Sourcing "best-in-class" third party suppliers
  • Traveling to customer sites to review current manufacturing practices/solutions and presenting technical proposals
  • Developing budgets for proposed solutions including estimates for labour and purchased items
  • Presenting solutions and costing to senior management for approvals (suggest merging with the purple below')
  • Participating in sales strategy development with the ATS capture teams
  • Implementing sales strategies to meet or exceed our capture rate goals
  • Participating in pre-bid alignments and presenting at bid review meetings as required
  • Writing technical proposals
  • Identifying problems and implementing Continuous Improvement initiatives
  • Working with other ATS businesses on integrated solutions
  • May be assigned special projects to support engineering and sales / marketing, as required
  • Supporting project launch through knowledge transfer meetings
  • For Applications team members with technical designations, your role may shift emphasis to specific technical solutions (eg; Mechanical, Controls, Vision, and/or other automation technologies, etc.)

Health and Safety
  • Work in compliance with divisional health, safety and environmental procedures
  • Refrain from removing or altering safety devices or guarding unless hazardous energies are controlled through lockout-tagout methods
  • Report any unsafe conditions or unsafe acts
  • Report defect in any equipment or protective device
  • Ensure that the required protective equipment is used for the assigned tasks
  • Attend all required health, safety and environmental training
  • Report any accidents/incidents to supervisor
  • Assist in investigating accidents/incidents
  • Refrain from engaging in any prank, contest, feat of strength, unnecessary running or rough and boisterous conduct
Qualifications

Education:

A post-secondary diploma or degree in mechanical/systems/electrical engineering or equivalent. Previous co-op work term experience to complement school projects and assignments is ideal.

Experience:

While years of experience are neither a requirement nor prerequisite, the preferred candidate must have the required post-secondary education coupled with a strong mechanical aptitude. A working knowledge and/or familiarity with automation, robotics, machine controls, and manufacturing processes are beneficial. Successful candidates have excellent communication skills and present engaging technical solutions with ease. This individual sets themselves apart from others because they understand the big picture and are capable of diving deep into the details. The ideal candidate is passionate about solving technical challenges and is compelled to beat the competition

Required Skills:

  • Must be able to demonstrate proficiency in SolidWorks and 2D CAD software
  • Must have strong written and oral communication skills
  • Strong MS Excel skills are an asset
  • Motivated, innovative, and creative individual
