Description

The Equipment Maintainer will be responsible for providing rail equipment maintenance services for the Metrolinx's Legacy Fleet Maintenance operations.

This individual will collaborate with the management team, customers, suppliers, partners and involved stakeholders. 

Reporting to the Maintenance Supervisor, will be responsible for performing various maintenance tasks on rail coaches, cab cars and locomotives. 

Responsibilities

Core Accountabilities: 

  • Confirm that all HSE policies, processes and procedures are being complied
  • Perform and document routine maintenance repairs on coaches and locomotives
  • Repair and install railway car parts such as air valves, bearings, couplings, air cylinders and piping resulting from troubleshooting, analysis, or fault detection 
  • Repair defective or damaged metal, plastic, and fiberglass accessories
  • Ability to replace damaged windows 
  • Review and/or create defect sheets 
  • Dumping and charging toilet and associated repairs
  • Perform tasks within Preventative Maintenance Inspections, and perform Routine Maintenance Inspections on interior and exterior components of passenger transit rail equipment determining proper operation, and the extent of wear and/or damage
  • Locomotive, coach, and cab car preventative maintenance 
  • Re-torque using torque machine or wrench 
  • Coach wheel change and shimming 
  • Inspection of couplers 
  • Disc rotor, tread brake, actuator, and air line replacement 
  • Wayside power application and removal (Yard and PM) 
  • Comply with the company's applicable policies and procedures as well as human resources' guidelines and the Collective Bargaining Agreement
  • Require to work various shifts on weekdays and weekends. (days, afternoons, nights)
Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • Ability to build strong rapport with the team and other unionized maintenance personnel 
  • 1 – 2 years experience working in a rail maintenance environment or equivalent type industry.   Rail locomotive and passenger coach experience and knowledge is an asset
  • Mechanical and Electrical maintenance experience an asset
  • Capable of reading and understand drawings and manuals.  Good communication skills
  • Able to travel off site to outpost locations for repairs
  • Experience using power and hand tools
  • Grade 12 or equivalent or a combination of education and work experience

Nice to have:

  • Experience working in an unionized environment
  • Familiarity with other industries such as Aerospace 
  • Experience working in the rail industry with a comprehensive knowledge of rail equipment
