Duties & Responsibilities
Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Lead, mentor, and develop a team of claim handlers, claim administrators, and technical assessors to deliver a high standard of service.
- Set and execute departmental goals aligned with corporate strategy, regulatory compliance, and customer satisfaction.
- Manage department budgets, staffing, and resource allocation to ensure efficiency and timely claim resolution.
- Collaborate with senior leadership to shape company policy and risk management strategies.
- Act as the primary point of contact for complex claims involving builders, strata councils, lawyers, engineers, and homeowners.
- Interpret and apply the BC Homeowner Protection Act, Residential Construction Performance Guide, Alberta and Manitoba equivalents, and other applicable legislation.
- Prepare correspondence and formal notices that withstand legal scrutiny, often in collaboration with external counsel.
- Liaise with Insurers to ensure proper cost sharing, indemnity recovery, and claims reserve management.
- Respond to regulatory inquiries, audits, and complaints with detailed documentation and legal references.
- Manage files to ensure that claims are assessed in a timely and strategic manner.
- Engage external professionals as needed to support coverage determinations.
- Review engineering reports and technical assessments relevant to claim files.
- Coordinate with third-party contractors to scope, estimate, and manage necessary repairs.
- Proactively manage and maintain organized, timely, and accurate records
- Maintain open communication with other Departments to support strong risk management practices.
- Monitor industry trends, building code changes, and regulatory updates to keep WBI ahead of compliance requirements.
- Build and maintain relationships with Builder members.
- Attend various industry functions to stay current with industry developments and strengthen relationships with Builder members.

Qualifications
Knowledge, Experience & Skills
- Extensive experience in home warranty insurance claims, construction claims, or related legal/regulatory field
- Strong knowledge of the Homeowner Protection Act, Residential Construction Performance Guide, and building code requirements.
- Proven leadership ability with experience managing high-performing teams.
- Excellent negotiation, conflict resolution, and stakeholder management skills
- Strong business writing skills for drafting legally defensible determinations, letters, and formal notices.
- Ability to deal effectively with builders, homeowners, and relevant third parties tactfully and firmly with sound judgement.
- Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy
Compensation
- The expected salary range for this position is $100,000 to $120,000 and will be impacted by factors such as the successful candidate's skills, experience, and location, as well as the specific position's business line, scope, and level.
