The AI Lab is a small and agile innovation team within HOOPP, focused on experimenting with and building cutting-edge AI solutions for real-world business problems. We build tools, prototypes, and applications that help transform data into valuable insights to support decision making in investment management. Our team values curiosity, collaboration, and a passion for continuous learning.

We're looking for a Student Intern who loves solving complex problems and building scalable, data-driven applications. You'll work closely with our AI engineers and business partners to enhance our existing applications and develop new pipelines and automation tools.

This is a hands-on role where you'll gain exposure to both application development and data engineering in a cloud environment. You'll contribute to proof of concepts and real projects which are already in use by business stakeholders.

What you will do:

  • Work on enhancing and maintaining existing Python Dash applications

  • Build and optimize data pipelines that support analytics and AI use cases

  • Collaborate with AI engineers and business users to understand requirements and translate them into technical solutions

  • Develop and maintain CI/CD pipelines to automate deployment and testing workflows

  • Contribute to cloud-based solutions using AWS

  • Set up agentic workflows using AWS or Microsoft based technologies

  • Experiment with new models, technologies, frameworks, and data tools to continuously improve our workflows.

What you will bring:

  • Currently pursuing a bachelor's or master's degree in computer science, Software Engineering, or a quantitative field with relevant experience

  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with an ability to take end-to-end ownership

  • Proficiency in Python (you'll use it daily)

  • Familiarity with cloud platforms – AWS (preferred) or Azure

  • Basic understanding of DevOps concepts such as CI/CD, Docker, or AzureRepos Actions

  • Knowledge of data pipelines, APIs, or application integration is an asset

  • Eagerness to learn, collaborate, and take ownership in a fast-paced environment

  • Knowledge of machine learning algorithms and MLOps is a plus

Why you'll love working with us

  • Small, dynamic team – your ideas will make a real impact.

  • Exposure to both AI and data engineering workflows.

  • Mentorship from experienced engineers.

  • A learning-first culture — we encourage experimentation and skill growth.

  • Opportunity to see your work deployed in production and used by real stakeholders.

The expected hourly rate range for this role is $26.00 to $40.00

The actual hourly rate offered to the successful candidate may vary based on multiple factors including, but not limited to, individual's expertise and level of experience applicable to the role they are being offered.
