Position Description:
We are currently seeking an experienced and compassionate On-Call Mental Health Specialist(s) to join our multidisciplinary team. The Mental Health Specialist(s) involves providing trauma-informed, therapeutic mental health services to individuals within the Elizabeth Fry Society of Kingston.
Clients may be recently released from a custodial institution or navigating complex challenges related to past involvement with the criminal justice system. Service delivery may include daytime, evening, or weekend hours depending on client needs.
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver one-on-one counselling or psychotherapy sessions tailored to client needs.
- Support clients dealing with:
- Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and trauma
- Substance use and addiction
- Depression and anxiety
- Intimate partner violence
- Grief and loss
- Anger management
- Identity and LGBTQIA2S+ related issues
- Use evidence-based approaches including Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), trauma-informed care, and compassion-focused therapy.
- Provide crisis intervention and mental health support as needed.
- Collaborate with CRF staff and external service providers to ensure continuity of care.
- Maintain clear, timely documentation in accordance with professional and organizational standards.
Hours: up to 10 hours per week. Please provide availability as part of application.
Job Type: Contract
Qualifications:
- Master's Degree in Social Work, Counselling Psychology, or a related field.
- Registration and in good standing with a regulatory body (e.g., CRPO, OCSWSSW, CPO).
- Minimum 3 years' experience providing clinical services to justice-involved women or individuals with complex needs.
- Demonstrated expertise in CBT, DBT, trauma-informed and compassionate care approaches.
- Strong understanding of systemic issues including the impacts of incarceration, gender-based violence, and social marginalization.
- Experience working with LGBTQIA2S+ clients and other equity-seeking groups.
- Ability to manage crisis situations calmly and effectively.
- Clear Vulnerable Sector Check and Enhanced Screening with adherence to confidentiality requirements.
- French language skills considered an asset.
