Date Posted: December 18, 2025Position Title: Lifeguard/Swim InstructorLocation: Bob Chan-Kent Family YMCA Hocking Ave, Chilliwack)Term: Part-Time PermanentHours: 4-24 hours per weekShift: Shifts vary but will include weekdays, evenings and weekends.Start Date: ASAPSalary: $ per hourReports To: Supervisor, AquaticsNature & ScopeThe Lifeguard/Swim Instructor will report to the Aquatics Supervisor and work collaboratively with other members of the YMCA team to provide a safe and fun aquatics environment.Major Responsibilities-in this position, you will:Guard and teach swimming lessons in a positive and professional mannerDevelop and lead lesson plans for various programs and administer progressive evaluations for participantsBuild meaningful relationships through positive daily interaction with YMCA members, visitors, and colleaguesPerform routine pool maintenance, as requiredPerform general administrative duties and record keeping responsibilitiesEnsure the safety of all members, participants, staff, and property, by following YMCA standards/policies/procedures and ensuring they are maintained among all members and staffPromote philanthropy through the annual fundraiser campaignStrong work ethic and able to remain flexibleAssist with training new staff/volunteers in procedures and practicesQualifications-you bring:Current Standard First Aid certificate (valid within 2 years)CPR level C and & AED certificate (valid within 1 year)National Lifeguard - Pool OptionWater Safety Instructor certification or equivalentExperience as a Lifeguard or Swimming Instructor - preferredYMCA Aquatic Fitness Certificate, or equivalent – preferredAccess to reliable transportation or a vehicleAdvanced leadership courses are an assetDemonstrated high level of customer service skillsSuccessful candidates will be required to provide a current and satisfactory Criminal Reference Check/Vulnerable Sector Search issued no later than six (6) months preceding your start date3 professional referencesAbout YMCA BC:By igniting belonging and championing health equity, YMCA BC strengthens the foundations of community.
