Our state- of-the-art centres of community offer a range of health, fitness, and aquatics programs for individuals and families.The Lifeguard/Swim Instructor will report to the Aquatics Supervisor and work collaboratively with other members of the YMCA team to provide a safe and fun aquatics environment.Major Responsibilities- in this position, you will:Guard and teach swimming lessons in a positive and professional mannerDevelop and lead lesson plans for various programs and administer progressive evaluations for participants Enforce pool rules and safety regulationsPerform water rescues and administer first aid or CPR when necessaryBuild meaningful relationships through positive daily interaction with YMCA members, visitors, and colleaguesPerform routine pool maintenance, as required Perform general administrative duties and record keeping responsibilitiesEnsure the safety of all members, participants, staff, and property, by following YMCA standards/policies/procedures and ensuring they are maintained among all members and staffPromote philanthropy through the annual fundraiser campaign Strong work ethic and able to remain flexible Assist with training new staff/volunteers in procedures and practicesQualification-you bring:Current Standard First Aid certificate (valid within 2 years)CPR level C and & AED certificate (valid within 1 year)National Lifeguard - Pool OptionYSI or Swim Instructor CertificationExperience as a Lifeguard or Swimming Instructor - preferredYMCA Aquatic Fitness Certificate, or equivalent – preferredAdvanced leadership courses are an assetDemonstrated high level of customer service skills Successful candidate will be required to provide 3 satisfactory references Successful candidates will be required to provide a current and satisfactory Criminal Record check with a Vulnerable sector search issued no later than six (6) months preceding the start date.About YMCA BC:By igniting belonging and championing health equity, YMCA BC strengthens the foundations of community.
