Your role:

CBC Quebec is seeking a Producer, based in Montreal, to lead our flagship morning radio show, Daybreak Montreal.

As Producer, you will drive programming decisions and lead a dynamic team that

includes a host, director, researchers, regular columnists and other contributors.

We are looking for a producer with a clear vision of how to deliver on Daybreak Montreal's mandate and grow audiences:

"If it matters to Montrealers, Daybreak is on top of it. Every weekday morning, Sean Henry and the team bring you the news you need and the stories you connect with, whether it's happening in your neighbourhood or at city hall. Daybreak reflects Montreal in all its diversity, wakes you up, makes you smile, and gets your day going."

This position requires someone with initiative, solid editorial judgment, leadership skills, a good contact network, bilingualism and the ability to work well in a team under pressure.

We are looking for someone who will broaden the range of perspectives, experiences and points of view reflected on Daybreak, especially those from people who have been traditionally underrepresented in the media.

You are curious and comfortable listening to and engaging with people who have different viewpoints, and welcome opportunities to challenge the status quo and confront bias.

The producer of Daybreak must be deeply invested in developing a representative and inclusive culture. You will oversee development of team members so an eye for talent and a gift for mentorship are key.

You should also be comfortable navigating conflict, providing feedback, having tough conversations and navigating teams through times of change to keep up with changing audience habits and needs.

  • Plan, select and request, in collaboration with station management, production resource requirements, including creative contributors and other participants, material and facilities. Be responsible and accountable for the program budget.
  • Plan digital strategies, including for audio, video, text and social for the show. Oversee the show team's workflow so that the digital requirements are met, regularly producing content for our platforms.
  • Evaluate all aspects of a production and programming; assist in evaluating the performance of personnel and freelance contributors.
  • Be responsible for providing regular feedback and check-in meetings with team members about the daily program and their growth and contributions.
  • Work to make our programming and our production processes inclusive, reflecting the broad and specific diversity of our audience across Quebec.

As required, you will also perform the following tasks:

  • Lead, motivate and be responsible for the professional growth and development of team members on the program.
  • Determine the order and importance of various elements of a program.
  • Properly incorporate network segments to ensure on-air messaging, and work closely with News and Current Affairs to adequately cover local, national and international stories.
  • Participate in the station's editorial and community outreach initiatives.
  • Coordinate and supervise the work of contributors to the program or segment for which you are responsible.
  • Ensure you maintain a level of communication or rapport with audience members.
  • Include digital and other visual treatments in the planning and rollout of stories.
  • Edit and mix or direct the editing and mixing of audio elements in keeping with existing practices.
  • Log programs and music in appropriate information systems.
  • Perform other production and administrative tasks ensuring the smooth operation
  • of your program.
  • Select music and sound effects.

We are looking for a candidate with the following:
