What's the role

Shell is seeking an Indigenous & Stkhldr Relations Sr. Advsr (internally known as Senior Advisor, National Indigenous and Stakeholder Relations) to join its team in Calgary.

The Corporate Relations function connects Shell to the world and the world to Shell. We provide advice to Country Chairs, helping them drive staff engagement and shape the external environment.

Accountabilities:

Lead implementation of Shell Canada's National Indigenous Relations Strategy

  • Co-develop and advance National Indigenous Relations Strategy in direct consultation with the Corporate Relations (CR) Leadership Team, National Social Performance Manager, Business and Communications Advisors
  • Support integration of Indigenous Relations guiding principles, objectives and actions across various lines of business and functions in coordination with CR business advisors
  • Coordinate implementation of Indigenous Relations Strategy actions and initiatives
  • Work directly with the CR Strategic Communications Team to develop evidence-based Shell – Indigenous Peoples communications to support external engagement and business-specific needs
  • Advise lines of business and senior leadership on Indigenous Relations matters (e.g., external engagements, risk management and/or opportunity optimization)
  • Facilitate strategically driven & business focused external presence & relationships with Indigenous groups in coordination with the CR LT and CR Business Advisors
  • Bring external Indigenous related insights to the CR Team, business and function stakeholders
  • Manage bi-weekly Indigenous Media Briefings
  • Provide advice on cross-cultural matters as required on projects and initiatives
  • Work with HR to advise on and evaluate Indigenous awareness and training activities for Shell Canda supporting cultural awareness and cross-cultural competency development

Lead implementation of Shell Canada's National Stakeholder Relations Strategy

  • Coordinate and co-design National Stakeholder Relations strategy in collaboration with Strategic Communications and National Social Performance Team
  • Provide in-country strategic advice and support for businesses leaders on national stakeholder engagement matters
  • Facilitate the development of positive relationships with strategic national external stakeholders
  • Provide external insights into emerging trends and signposts to identify opportunities and mitigate risks to CR Leadership team and business senior leaders to support quality decisions
  • Understand and influence the opportunities, challenges, trends, issues and risks in the external landscape through sensing and active engagements including governments, NGOs, civil society groups, academics and other opinion leaders
  • In conjunction with CR Government Relations team, National SP and Strategic Communications teams, support the management of Shell's reputation with critical national stakeholders
  • Lead interface with regional and global CR colleagues on stakeholder relations activities that cross jurisdictions (e.g., Environmental Non-Government Organizations)

What you bring

  • Must have legal authorization to work in Canada on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer
  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience
  • At least 10 years of experience in non-technical risk integration, stakeholder relationship management, and/or social performance
  • Deep experience with and understanding of stakeholder and Indigenous landscape in Canada
  • Experience and extensive knowledge of Canada's energy and natural resources sectors
  • Good business partnering skills and ability to serve as trusted advisor
  • Experience managing stakeholder relationship management software programs
  • Role model curiosity and reflection; encourage people to learn from mistakes and successes
  • Integrate and collaborate across boundaries to maximize commercial value for Shell as a whole
  • Ability to create an environment where others feel empowered to deliver high performance through clear intent, priorities, and outcomes
  • Must be willing to travel
