Sessional Lecturer- BIO331H5 S: Ecology of Communities

This course will cover the theoretical foundations of community ecology, including the role of species interactions and environment structure on patterns of diversity and implications of community ecology in conservation. It will provide practical experience working with tools used to analyze community structure. Discussion and evaluation of the primary literature is a key component of this course. Students will also complete written assignments.

Prerequisites: BIO205H5 and (BIO259H5 or BIO360H5)

Estimated course enrolment: 60

Estimated TA support: 70 hours

Class schedule (tentative): Lecture Tuesday 1:00 PM - 2:00 PM and Thursday 1:00 PM - 2:00 PM check timetable for the most up to date and complete information

Sessional dates of appointment: Jan 1, 2026 to Apr 30, 2026

Sessional Lecturer III - $10,760.28

Sessional Lecturer III Long Term - $11,030.36

All pay rates are inclusive of vacation pay. Should rates stipulated in the Collective Agreement vary from rates stated in this posting, the rates stated in the Collective Agreement shall prevail.

Qualifications: The candidate must have a Ph.D. degree in Biology or related field. The decision on hiring will be based on previous teaching experience in this course or other similar courses, academic qualifications, ability, and suitability for the position.

Description of duties: Normal duties associated with teaching a university course, including preparation and delivery of course content, development, administration and marking of assignments, tests and exams, calculation and submission of grades, contact with students by regular office hours. Completion of all grades (may include make-up exams). This course will have in person lectures and practical sessions, and the position will include supervision of the day-to-day work of any Sessional Instructional Assistants or Teaching Assistants assigned to the course.
