The course uses a "Writing About Writing" approach to help students understand the writing process, with an emphasis on the concepts of discourse communities, genre, rhetoric, argument, and audience. Rather than focusing on discipline-specific writing skills, the course helps students develop transferable writing skills. ISP100H5 is delivered from the perspective that all writers can improve their writing, so that students with diverse writing skills will benefit by taking it. There is a required writing assessment in the first week of classes, and students must pass the threshold mark to continue in the course. Those below the threshold will be unrolled from ISP100H5 and advised to enroll in ISP010H5: Basics of Writing in English (BoWiE). **Positions**:Up to 3 position(s) available. **Estimated Course Enrolment**:25 **Estimated TA Support**:N/A **Class Schedule**:Various times Monday-Friday between 9:00am-9:00pm (in-person). The course meets once weekly for 3 hours each meeting. **Sessional Dates of Appointment**: January 6 - April 30, 2025 (Winter 2025 Semester). **Salary**: - Sessional Lecturer I: $9457.90 - Sessional Lecturer I - Long Term: $9930.79 - Sessional Lecturer II: $10121.77 - Sessional Lecturer II - Long Term: $10326.62 - Sessional Lecturer III: $10362.76 - Sessional Lecturer III - Long Term: $10570.02 Please note that should rates stipulated in the collective agreement vary from rates stated in this posting, the rates stated in the collective agreement shall prevail. **Minimum Qualifications**: - A completed or nearly completed doctoral degree in Writing Studies, Rhetoric and Composition, or related discipline. - A minimum of 1 year of experience teaching academic writing courses at the university or college level (e.g., first-year composition or similar). - Demonstrated engagement with professional development and/or scholarly activities related to academic writing. - Demonstrated experience using active learning strategies in the university or college classrooms. **Preferred Qualifications**: - Demonstrated experience working with first-year university students. - Demonstrated experience working with multilingual writers. - Demonstrated experience teaching multi-section courses with standardized grading schemes at the university or college level. - Three or more years of experience teaching academic writing courses at the university level (e.g., first-year composition or similar). **Description of Duties**: - Attending up to 10 hours of onboarding, benchmarking, and professional development meetings. - Teaching weekly classes using active learning strategies. - Marking and commenting on student writing (during the term and beyond if an extension of time is granted by the university officials). - Submitting grades to university officials. - Holding regular office hours. - Cover letter; - Curriculum vitae; - Examples of teaching evaluations. **Closing Date**: 12/09/2024 - This job is posted in accordance with the CUPE 3902 Unit 3 Collective Agreement._ - It is understood that some announcements of vacancies are tentative, pending final course determinations and enrolment.
