Charke Investments is acquiring and scaling a profitable, established commercial speciality construction services business in Eastern Ontario. We're hiring a General Manager to take full ownership of operations and build the next chapter from the ground up.

This is a blank-slate role. Systems, processes, reporting, and cadence will largely be built from scratch. If that excites you, keep reading. If you prefer inheriting polished systems, this is not your job.

What You'll Own

You are the operator. End of story.

Operations

  • Own day-to-day operations across commercial construction projects
  • Oversee estimating, scheduling, field execution, and job profitability
  • Build and implement job tracking, reporting, and performance metrics
  • Ensure safety, quality, and deadlines are non-negotiable

People & Leadership

  • Lead and grow a team of project managers, supervisors, office staff, and subcontractors
  • Hire, coach, and hold people accountable
  • Build a performance-driven, no-drama culture

Financial Accountability

  • Own the P&L with weekly and monthly reporting to ownership
  • Manage margins, WIP, AR/AP, and cash flow
  • Work with external bookkeeping and accounting partners (QuickBooks)

Sales & Growth

  • Manage and grow relationships with commercial clients and general contractors
  • Oversee tendering, pricing discipline, and win/loss analysis
  • Help build outbound sales capability and strategic partnerships
  • Improve estimating accuracy and consistency

Systems & Scale

  • Design and implement modern systems for estimating, CRM, project management, and field communication
  • Reduce tribal knowledge and replace it with repeatable processes
  • Create visibility and control where none currently exists

Location & Travel

  • Office and operations are based in Eastern Ontario
  • A significant portion of work is in Ottawa
  • Candidates based in Ottawa are encouraged to apply
  • Regular travel to the office and job sites is required

Who You Are

  • 8–15+ years in construction or commercial trades
  • Proven experience running operations with real P&L responsibility
  • Comfortable building systems from a blank slate
  • Strong financial instincts—you know when numbers don't add up
  • Decisive, accountable, and not afraid of hard conversations
  • Experience in commercial roofing or similar trades is a strong asset
  • Tech-comfortable and improvement-oriented

This Role Is Not

  • A caretaker role
  • A corporate bureaucracy
  • A job for someone waiting to be told what to do

Compensation & Upside

  • Base salary starting at $100,000
