Senior Mechanical Engineer

Position Summary:

The Senior Mechanical Design Engineer will contribute to the mechanical design team, providing a high-quality contribution to the development of client-driven design approaches and solutions. He or she will use extensive knowledge of design concepts and software tools (SolidWorks) to develop comprehensive drawings. This individual should be innovative, creative and a team player who can work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.

Specific Responsibilities:

• Design mechanical components (parts and assembly) in SolidWorks in accordance with DFMA, design for installation, and backward compatibility throughout the typical design cycle. The design cycle includes conceptual design, prototyping, detailed design, analysis, ERP BOM engineering, and vendor liaison for purchase.

• Sustaining engineering on existing product lines, including design & documentation, modification of existing product design to match the latest design standards per lessons learned.

• Support ECR/ESR process to gain product feedback and provide engineering support to operations and production/install team.

• Contribute to continuous improvement, troubleshooting, cost reduction, scrap minimization, and work details.

• Design in a practical, cost-effective manner with the end goal in mind, rather than meeting a strictly theoretical target

• Visit client sites to make site measurements and project planning, gauge design parameters and document data per company standards.

• Engineering BOMs in ERP, correcting BOM per ERP requirements, ensuring UOM accuracy.

• Participate in technical reviews, weekly engineering meetings, and bring new ideas in design and process.

• Take responsibility for all tasks assigned by the project manager, keep track of progress and status against project goals & schedule.

• Make installation instructions and prototype test reports for designs and systems.

Requirements:

· A bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Automation Engineering, or a closely related field is strongly preferred. Alternatively, a college diploma in Mechanical Engineering Technology, Industrial Automation, or Robotics combined with significant relevant industry experience will also be considered.

• A master's degree in mechanical engineering would be an asset
• 3 years of SolidWorks experience with (especially the Sheet Metal Module)
• 3 years of experience in mechanical design
• Prior supervisory or managerial experience would be an asset
• Electrical equipment awareness for custom machine design robotics
• CAD/CAM familiarity
• Willingness to travel
