Senior Municipal Engineer
Are you an experienced Senior Municipal Engineer looking to progress your career? We're looking for a Senior Municipal Engineer to join our growing team. We are open to filling this position in our Fredericton office.
At GEMTEC, we offer something different. We're an employee-owned, 400-person multidisciplinary consulting firm—not too big, not too small. We're large enough to compete head-to-head with publicly traded engineering giants, but still small enough to maintain the culture and flexibility of a close-knit team.
Our size and hands-on management style let us move quickly, embrace new opportunities, and empower our people to shape their own careers—without getting lost in corporate bureaucracy.
You're an ideal candidate if:
You're a collaborative and detail-oriented Civil Engineer who enjoys tackling complex infrastructure challenges and seeing projects come to life. You take initiative, communicate effectively, and thrive in a team environment where you can balance technical design with hands-on project delivery.
You'll excel in this role if you:
- Are passionate about designing and improving municipal and transportation infrastructure.
- Enjoy managing multiple priorities and keeping projects moving efficiently.
- Communicate clearly with clients, colleagues, and stakeholders.
- Value teamwork, mentorship, and continuous learning.
- Take pride in producing accurate, high-quality work that meets client and community needs.
A typical day on the job might look like:
- Preparing engineering drawings, technical reports, specifications, and tender documents.
- Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to develop practical, cost-effective design solutions.
- Reviewing drawings and designs to ensure accuracy, compliance and constructability.
- Supporting construction administration activities, including site inspections and responding to contractor's inquiries.
- Utilizing AutoCAD Civil 3D to produce and review detailed civil design plans.
- Communicating with clients, municipalities, and other stakeholders to keep projects on track and aligned with expectations.
- Providing mentorship and technical guidance to junior staff as needed.
- Office-based design/project management with site visits to projects as required
- Adhering to all company policies.
- Other duties as required.
The good stuff you get:
- Full-time (37.5 hours per week)
- Complete health & dental coverage including vision, paramedical services, and Teladoc
- Retirement planning made easier with a 5% employer match on your contributions
- Paid time off (vacation and sick days) plus Employee & Family Assistance Program when you need it
- Office year-end closure (paid time off between Christmas and the New Year)
Your background and what you bring:
- Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited university.
- 8–10 years of experience in civil engineering consulting, including municipal and infrastructure design.
- Registered or eligible for registration with APEGNB.
- Proven experience in project management, including budget, schedule, and client coordination.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D and related design software.
- Strong understanding of water, sanitary, and stormwater systems, as well as road and site grading design.
- Experience preparing engineering drawings, specifications, and tender documents.
- Familiarity with construction administration and site inspection.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Valid driver's license and have access to a personal vehicle for work related travel.
